I am having an issue and have been for a few months now, it seems whenever Plex is running in the background or if the application is active but phone turns off the screen it will kill the application entirely after a few songs. The number of songs is never consistent, though I never really sat down and timed it, I’ve even had it kill in the middle of a song. This seems to occur if the phone is on WiFi (Local to the server or remote) or on cellular. I have gone through and killed any battery saving/memory optimization I can find in Android when in relation to Plex however this issue still occurs. I cannot give you a time an exact time frame as to when this started happening, other than earlier in the year.
This issue seems to only occur with the music library, I do not have this issue with the web player streaming music on my PC or when streaming movies using the app via my phone to my Chromecast/TV. I am also not having this kind of issue with any other applications on my phone other than Plex.
I will be more than happy to provide logs from the Android app & the server logs via private message to staff and can easily reproduce the issue.
Yup, I’ve noticed this too. I predominantly use the app on my phone solely for music playback in the car.
I have noticed that if you Force Stop the app, it does seem to then work correctly for most of the remaining playback of the album.
I then find when I return to it in a few days, because that would be when I am getting back in the car, the behavior starts again, and so I Force Stop and on we go…
Same. Android client for Plex is garbage. Been dealing with the same for about 6 months. I tried multiple suggestions here, changing the battery and power settings, allowing it to run in the background, etc. Zero change.
Reviewing the forums and the web has told me the Android client for Plex has long been problematic and it seems it is not being addressed.
Anybody have a good alternate for just playing music? I am going to use something else for music playback the Android client for Plex does not work. Period.
Since no staff seems to have looked at this, I might as well list another symptom. It seems when this issue occurs, the songs get backed up of sorts. The information about the song does not change when the song does. So say I am listening to ‘Song 1’, once it is finished ‘Song 2’ starts, however if I unlock my phone and check Plex it still has the information of ‘Song 1’ and the duration bar is still going so it is playing ‘Song 2’ with the details of ‘Song 1’. Not sure if this is a symptom of just Android not allowing it to pull any information from my server or if this is a Plex app problem. Either way, would absolutely love for a staff member to attempt to look into this.
As I said in OP, I am willing to send logs to staff via DM, this is due to the DDNS I use to access my home servers, I rather not have that information out there. This issue is so bad, I can replicate pretty much at will given about 5 minutes.
Hi - noob here, but found your post while googling.
I am experiencing 100% THE EXACT SAME THING as you are MCDNAS01 on my Pixel 3a.
I’ve done all the same things listed in previous postings around the interwebs with no luck.
At first I thought it was an issue with Android Auto when I was driving, then I found it’s regardless of connection (local or remote / wifi or 4G)
I haven’t tried it but I did find a posting that someone said the browser interface streaming worked, but it’s not optimized for mobile so navigation and stuff was less than ideal.
Hopefully we can keep this alive and get the staff to dive into this. I’m hesitant to jump into a PlexPass due to this issue.
Sadly their solution to this was to make a new app instead of actually fixing the problems. They created PlexAMP for music, so far I don’t have this exact issue, however I have other issues. The original issue has started to occur while streaming movies and television shows to my Chromecast, I am sure they’ll split off the Movies/TV Show side of things into another app too and kill Plex in general.
All of these same problems on my 3a XL. Happens with both online and sync’d content as well. Been having issues with the app since I started using Plex years ago. Really disappointing that nothing is done about it.
