Terrible experience as daily music player

I have been using Plex as music player (connected to my plex server) on my Samsung Note 9 for 3 months and its been frustrating experience, its like its been designed to work bad with errors intentionally, here are my issues:

  1. When answering call in the middle of playback and ending it, plex doesn’t resume playback
  2. Often it stops playback for no reasons and i have to press play again
  3. Often it stops playback for no reasons and when i press power button to wake phone screen it starts to play again or even just present my fingerprint without doing anything else to phone
  4. Sometimes app just disappears and doesn’t play
  5. All media that is synced on my phone doesn’t play anymore - press on playlist or album and it says error occurred and skips to next track with same error and so on… imagine this on 200+ song playlist. However if i go to Download and Sync menu and navigate to same playlists and albums, it plays fine

I am on latest Plex android version and so as the server version. On my phone i have set up Plex so its excluded form power batter management and phone is set to high performance.

Anyone else having issues?

I have been a lifetime member since 2013.

Sync has always been my biggest complaint. Over the years I have tried it a lot. I constantly reinstall the app on my Android phone.

sync continues to not work for me. Sometimes it only syncs a few things. I only use sync for music.

Right now I got it to sync. But it will not play any of the synced content without a internet connection. I am not sure why that is an error when I try to play synced content that has been downloaded to the device.
Then after that error the app crashes.
I did get it to play a song a few minutes ago. This was playing from the server over the wifi. But when it moved to the next song the whole app crashed.

It will only play one or two songs and the app just crashes.

In my experience. Plex “music” only works about 50% of the time on an android device. I have been using it for 7 years and it has always been a constant problem.

I keep my sever updated. I use a Pixel 4 phone right now and it is also fully updated.

Plex works great to send video to many different devices. But I have never gotten music to work reliably. I try it a lot. I have complained about it in the past. but new problems emerge as fast as they fix them.

If I had to guess… I would say that Android does not allow Plex to keep running in the background. But I’m not sure.

I have been trying and retrying for years. Mixed results.

Plex does a great job with video streaming.

The problems you are complaing about in this thread seem normal to me.

I love to listen to music when I ride bike or ski alone. It is very zen and a lot of fun.
I have often experienced weird anomalies with Plex. It seems to stop for no reason. I always assumed this is Android doing some sort of battery optimization. Maybe Android does not allow it to keep running in the background. I don’t know, but it has always been like that. I have looked through settings. I have tried to solve this kind of stuff. But I have never found a solution.

Keep in mind that Plex works great on all of my other setups. I have always wanted Plex to turn my phone into an iPod. I can control the sync from my computer. It seems great on paper. It has worked in the past a few times. It works just enough for me to not give up. But then it lets me down again. I remember going through months when it worked and months when it did not work.

Right now I can not get it to work at all on my android Phone. I have reinstalled it 4 times in the last few weeks. I just gave up and purchased a Spotify subscription.

i agree especially the fact that it never improves but rather creates new issues, i posted here once before Tried Plex as daily music player - disappointing

I just tried to recreate the issue. I wrote a new thread.

A full reset of Plex on my phone did improve my experience. Maybe try a full reset of the Plex app.

Remove the device from the server as an “Authorized Device”.
Remove the Plex app from your phone.
Remove all sync info from the server associated with the device

It might help.
