It seems that whenever I add a track to a collection, all tracks in any collection lose the disc number from their metadata. Any albums that have some tracks in a collection and some that are not are now in a state where the former group have no album number and the latter still do, meaning that they now sort and play out of order.
I’ve seen mention elsewhere of changing the “Prefer local metadata” setting (this is currently NOT checked), but it’s by no means clear that this would fix the issue. I’ve put substantial effort into managing and cleaning the data in my library at this point and am afraid that doing that might undo many hours of work, just to find out that it hasn’t resolved anything.
This does not affect tracks that are only in smart collections, just the ones in manually-managed collections.
I just tried adding a track to a collection with only 17 items, and it did it. Then I reset the disc numbers on some things and removed it from that collection, and it did it again. The largest collections are a couple hundred items, it happens with all of them, as far as I can tell.
Ah, I always forget that that’s a thing. But I wonder what the difference to a playlist is.
Anyway, I’ve encountered something similar. But it would not affect the track numbers but the disc numbers. After I’ve removed a smart collection which encompassed practically my whole library, the issue stopped.
I’ve filed the issue a long time ago, but without more people encountering it or a shure-fire way to recreate it it never got traction to get investigated.
It seems pretty sure-fire to me for recreating it. Happy to help out with test builds, logging, whatever, if it can’t be recreated there by the devs. (I’m a developer myself, so quite familiar with the process.)
And yes, it’s the disc number that I’m losing, not the track number. I do have a few smart collections. Seems like it’s maybe not so hard to recreate?
