Hey Everyone, I’ve got a weird issue with my music videos and the Plex library. After adding the correct agent to the server settings I add the videos to the library via “other videos”, select the folder then choose the correct scanner/agent.
The problem is while Plex scans and adds to library, they show just fine (’Til Tuesday - Voices Carry-video) but a second later, the artist names are removed from the file name and I’m stuck looking at songs title only.
It’s pretty difficult to navigate the library by song title only. Can anyone see a reason why Plex would choose not to show the Artist name in the file?
Also, not sure if its relevant. I dont have Plex managing my music library, only movies, tv and music videos.
Not sure I follow. When I view the metadata for an mp4 video file I see all the data there (track title, track artist, album artist, composer and album).
Should I be treating video files differently than music files when it comes to metadata?
A track of music usually has an artist or an album assigned to it.
But that’s not true for a video. A video only has its title, nothing else.
Videos are also not organised by artist and/or album.
(I mean ‘videos’ in the most generic sense, not particularly ‘music videos’).
That’s why Plex won’t show you the contents of the ‘Artist’ meta tag from a video.
And if the video has embedded meta tags, Plex will read only the content of the ‘title’ metatag and show it as the video’s title.
Plex has only limited support for the special variety of ‘Music videos’

Interestingly, when the files are added to the library, theres a brief moment where the files are named correctly (artist name - song title) then it flips to just song title.
