Music video clips have wrong years in metadata

Hi. I have a large library of music video clips (nearly 1000) and the metadata is wrong. songs from the 80’s are coming up as random years like 2016. Is there anyway to fix this other than manually changing the years? This would take too long. Is it an issue of where it is drawing metadata from? I don’t know how to change that. Thanks!

You’ll need to share some more details…

  • what type of library are we talking about (e.g. movie or other videos)?
  • what agent are you using for this library (e.g. some 3rd party agent that’ll pull metadata from a music clip repository )?
  • how have you named / structured the files for that library?
  • any other elements to be considered when it comes to Plex determining the release date / year of those videos?

Thanks for the response Tom.

The library is other videos

I haven’t selected a 3rd party agent to pull the metadata from. I have found where to change this and it is set on the default which is personal media. Is there a best source to use for music video clips?

All music video files are named band then song eg. Billy Idol - Cradle of Love

Thanks again for your help.

Libraries of type „other video“ don’t collect any metadata to start with. This is with the exception of metadata embedded inside those files.
So unless you have a (release) year set in the file‘s metadata, Plex won’t know about it.

Personally I’ve included my music videos in a music library. This will however only work for videos for which you also got songs/albums.

Thanks Tom. That’ s a great help. I’ll create a global music video library.
