I just recently setup a new Music Video library, for long form music videos (concerts, music films etc.). I’m using “Personal Media” as the agent. However Plex is using the date of the file for the date, even though the files are named in the correct format (including year) and I’ve tagged the files with the proper year in the metadata.
My goal is to have the artist name in the title of each item in my music library (for example “The Beatles - A Hard Day’s Night”). One solution that might work would be for a movie agent to match each item but then force the library to use my filename as a title (if that is possible). However I don’t want to do this globally, just for the Music Videos library.
Last night I tried to setup these files in my Emby server as a test and it simply reads the metadata of the files as expected, no issues at all. I’m wondering what I’m doing wrong with Plex (and another item on my “maybe I should just switch to Emby” list.
I figured out a solution that is working for me. As I suspected sidecar files do seem to work using the XBMCnfoMoviesImporter plugin. I set up a Movie library using the Plex Video Files scanner and the XBMCnfoMoviesImporter agent. I normally use JRiver to manage my media files but I found that it’s .xml sidecar file was not sufficient, so I’m taking an extra step and running my music video files through MediaElch to generate the compliant .nfo files
