I have a lot of music videos from back when I did some DJing. I still keep them up to date. These are a cross between music and movies, obviously. They take the normal tag information you would get with a song (album, genre, year, cover art, etc.). I have them in a different folder on my server and when it pulls them in, it pulls title, artist, and cover art. It does not pull in the other tag information.
These happen to be all MP4s, which is a valid format for movies encoded as MP4 files.
Is there a way to read these tags instead of it trying to guess the movie based on artist and title?
I still like using Plex for this because it is like I have MTV back when they used to play music videos.
What tags are you referring to. MP4’s don’t have the same tags as music files. PMs should be picking up the same tags as if it was a movie, so things like title and release date should be used.
If you don’t want Plex trying to match these to movies, use the “Other Video” library or a movie library with the personal media agent.
I did use “Other Video” when I built the library.
As far as the tags, they seem to be ID3v2.3 or ID3v2.4 tags.
For the settings, I have:
Library Type: Other Videos
Name: Music Videos
Language: None
Visibility: Include in home screen and global search
Enable Cinema Trailers UNCHECKED
Enable video preview thumbnails CHECKED
Include related External Content: CHECKED
Collections: Show collections and their items
Scanner: Plex Video Files Scanner
Agent: Personal Media
I know in the music section, you can bring up things like lyrics, which is really cool and then bring up things about the album. The music side definitely reads the ID3vx with respect to album and genre information and you can even add mood. I can change sort by all of those. I cannot with the music videos side of the house.
