Music: What If I WANT Dumb Shuffle?

Firstly, I do love smart shuffle and the library radio.

However, one of the inevitable drawbacks of its metadata sources is that songs with no user rating and no popularity metadata just never get played in library radio. For example, relatively obscure stuff that not enough people have ever scrobbled.

In an attempt to solve this I made a smart playlist with the filter “Track Rating = empty” so when I’m bored I can just listen to that and rate some tracks and hopefully, eventually, have most of my library rated.

However, when I pull up this smart playlist and hit shuffle, after a track or two Plex ‘helpfully’ starts adding songs that already have user ratings to the queue!

Separately, I have a second question: are 3-star, 4-star, and 5-star rated tracks “weighted” differently? Will 5-star tracks come up more often than 3-star tracks? I do know that rating a track less than 3-stars is essentially banishing it to the dimensional prison as far as Library Radio is concerned.

Could you show the filters, which you used to build this smart playlist?

  1. you can disable smart shuffle > https://app.plex.tv/desktop > settings > library > uncheck smart shuffle option

  2. [TIP] --- how to create an autoplaylist with random sort

I was afraid of that. Don’t really want to hassle with going into settings and disabling smart shuffle every time I want to play this one playlist, but I think your second tip will work as a workaround. Thanks.

FWIW, I would prefer having two different shuffle buttons, or a little checkbox (smart shuffle on/off) on the one shuffle button.

yes the 2nd option will use a normal-non-smart shuffle, and you apply it per auto-playlist, so it only affects what you want it to.
