When I put a recent movie OR TV item in the respective folder with correct naming conventions and then do update library none of the items are added.
BUT IF I DELETE either library and recreate from scratch THEN they appear correctly.
There has GOT to be a better way to add that I am missing.
Yeah, that seems odd. From the web client you should just be able hover over the library in the side panel, select the āmoreā (three vertical dots) icon, and then click āScan Library Filesā to have it pick up newly added media:
You definitely should not have to delete and re-add a library to have it detect new content. If youāre trying to do this from something other than the web client, give the steps above a try and see if that helps. Some clients donāt do a very good job of updating their library views in a timely manner.
Does it take a while to copy the files to the server?
Iām pretty new at this, but I believe thereās an issue where the automatic scan starts before the file finishes copying. The system sees the file but it is not yet playable so it is ignored. Maybe this is something affecting you, if all the naming and folder setup is correct.
I think you have 3 options to test if this is happening
Try to initially move the file to a āstagingā area on the same disk but not in the Plex library folder, so that the final move is quick enough for the scan to keep up
Turn off the automatic scans (for whole library and folders) and do them manually once copying finished
From memory there is a setting somewhere to increase the scan time/delay from 60seconds or so, to give the files more time to copy, but Iām not near my machine at the moment to check
I do that and it updated NOTHING in either case.
I KNOW the names are correct as on recreation from scratch it picked up both but NEVER when I used scan library files.
Not doubting you, but can you show an example of a TV show which is not able to be scanned when added? Please include the full path (a screenshot like this would be great):
Maybe theyāre being picked up as duplicates for some reason. You can check for that in your TV library in the web client. From the second drop-down select āEpisodes.ā Then, from the first drop-down, select āDuplicates.ā This will show any duplicate episodes in your library.

Plex expects them to be there for proper matching. I canāt explain why it would work without them for newly added libraries and not for scans, but it is a problem which needs to be corrected.
