having an issue where i add files and can see them added into the hard drive folder for plex, but when I select scan it does nothing. My plex server is set to scan every 15min and when new content is added but it does nothing. I have to restart the computer and select scan and then it will add the files

Similar issue here!
However, restarting computer does not resolve. Restarting server does not solve. Going into settings and changing tick boxes does not resolve. Removing and reinstalling Plex does not resolve. Nothing I have googled and tried will resolve. I’m not tech savvy either, so half of what I read may as well be in Japanese, as makes no difference.
Basically, I have downloaded new episodes for multiple different shows/series I already have in my Library, same naming convention and locations used as already established, but library scan not updating since latest update to Version 1.18.2.2058 Plex Server. New episodes will not show up in Plex at all…in the past they would automatically update without scan, or if I prompted a scan.
Is there a bug fix that I can actually use, or do I have to wait for the next version update?
Hi both, I’ve been scratching my head with this one as well.
Been running Plex since initial release and never seen an issue until recently, all new media added this month was not being picked up by a scan. [I last added content in August - which did sync correctly]
I found a couple of threads concerning media and plex folder share permissions but all looked ok and was configured for both read & write.
I tried the usual emptying of trash and cleaning of bundles, plus uplifting to the latest server version on my NAS - None of this made a difference.
I then found this thread
I hadn’t considered database corruption, and not particularly technical to be able to delve into logs and linux shell. But the steps outlined were very straight forward, assuming you have a valid backup and could easily be reversed.
So I followed the instructions, stopping plex, renaming current database -corrupt, then using last backup (oddly from August), checking Plex was owner and then restarting… bingo… triggering a scan instantly found newly added media.
So try the embedded link and see if it works for you, I assume the only thing I’ve lost is any media usage stats / media watched watch tags since backup - which I can live with.
Kudos to ChuckPA for such a helpful and informative thread.
Cheers,
Hants.
