I am using Shield TV (both a previous generation and new tube version). I seem to be having bandwidth issues but the connections are all gigabit. my server is a windows PC.
when I try to play a movie, it often stalls within a few seconds. i see on the plex server that the movie “pauses”. ethernet performance (in task manager on server PC) never gets above 10mbps when this happens (except maybe while its loading). It will pause and play and pause and play until i get a message that my connection to the server is not fast enough. - if this happens (any kind of skipping or pausing), the movie will at no point play smoothly…i need to exit the movie and retry.
sometimes I have to back out and reload multiple times (sometimes it works right away) before the movie “catches” a good connection and i can see 50-100mbps+ in task manager ethernet performance. it then plays flawlessly unless i pause or rewind - then the bandwidth issue often comes back where i need to back out and hit play again (resume), sometimes multiple times before “catching” another solid connection.
sometimes when a movie is loading, the plex golden load circle will appear, disappear for a second, then reappear for a while longer before playing. i dont know why this happens, but when it does, the movie NEVER plays smoothly (i dont “catch” a solid connection. bandwidth never gets above 10mbps and i have to back out and try again. i am usually able to “catch” a good connection pretty quickly (usually by the 3rd try), but sometimes it wont play smoothly no matter how many times i try. this is over internet, but whenever i test the server upload internet speed i always have 800-900mbps upload and my internet is always 600mbps+ download.
i never transcode always direct play, and i always check to make sure while testing.
has anyone experienced or heard of this? could it be a hardware issue on my server? i tried changing/updating the adapter drivers but didnt have any luck.
thank you!
