My whole family uses Plex on our ios devices (iPhone X), iMac, and three apple TVs. Today i started having issues on my living room Apple TV as it wouldn’t play a movie, So i thought it was my connection so i changed from 2.4 to 5G, but the problem continued. I went to my bedroom TV and the same thing there. I noticed there was an update to the Apple TVs so i thought maybe it was that Plex hadn’t updated their app. So, I tried my iPhone and the same issue there. I know it is an account issue, because i tried my wifes account and it worked just fine. I get a message stating:
“Something went wrong playing your media. Please try again. You have too many active streams.”
I’ve logged out of every device and I continue to get the message. At first I thought it was an update issue but like i said my wife account is just fine on all the same devices.
Sounds like you are accessing a shared server. To be clear, that message means the user sharing their server with you has put a limit on the number of streams you can have. This has nothing to do with your Plex account, but the sharing rules that user has placed on your account. If you think this is wrong, please contact that user directly.
I have a friend who has access to my server who’s been getting this message as well the past few days on multiple devices, my server’s set to limit 2 streams per user but his account’s never watching anything when he gets that “too many active streams” message.
Next time this happens please provide your PMS logs so we can check why that message is appearing. It could be something was left on pause on another client they forgot about.
I was in the same boat. I wasn’t watching anything, even my brother looked and it stated i was not streaming anything. SO my brother restarted his server and everything reset itself. Have your friend contact the server and have them restart.
