My EPG no longer refreshes

Hi,
It’s been about a week or so that my EPG refuses to refresh.
Sometime it proceeds very slowly and then stops but it only manages to download few days /channels.
Right now it will not proceed past 1% as you can see in the following image:

I see a lot of errors referencing curl_easy_perform() in the Plex Media Server.log file (attached):

I have two Plex servers and the same issue occurs on both.
I am on latest version (1.12.1.4885) but I have also tried re-installing version 1.11.3.4803 and the issue still occurs.

Please help.

Thanks,
Marco.

This is being investigated - appears to be affecting a large number of users in Ontario, canada

Please could you do a tracert tmsapi.plex.tv in command line and let me know where it gets to

See update here regarding the Ontario, Canada EPG Refresh timeouts

Update: Cloudflare had issues with certificates after some doman changes. It has now been routed to new IP addresses. Please try and report back.

Hopefully the problem for Ontario Canada users is now resolved.

With regards to IP bans mentioned for some other users, the next beta release of Plex Media Server will have a fix for a caching issue that resulted in multiple repeated requests being made unnecessarily and should hopefully avoid any rate limiting and temporary IP ban

@sa2000 I’m not in Ontario (I’m in NYC) but keep having similar EPG timeouts. Happens to me every few week. As of this morning, I have not future programming info and my EPG refresh is stuck at 3% every time I try. I run two servers on the same network. Primary is Windows Version 1.12.0.4829 and my backup is Mac Version 1.9.7.4460. Both having same issues. Logs for Windows server are attached…

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I can see a Rate Limiting temporary IP ban imposed by Cloudflare a few hours before

Apr 09, 2018 04:43:45.303 [1560] DEBUG - Activity: updated activity f3156428-f50b-4d88-8ecb-c817a77abf15 - completed 43% - Refreshing EPG

Access denied | tmsapi.plex.tv used Cloudflare to restrict access

You are being rate limited

The owner of this website (tmsapi.plex.tv) has banned you temporarily from accessing this website.

There will be a fix in the next beta v1.12.3 to reduce the requests to cloudflare significantly avoiding repeat requests and this should stop the rate limiting errors

The logs also show a refresh getting stuck at 3% 5 hours later - may need to get a process dump as well as logs if this happens again - but woud like to defer the investigation until after the upgrade to version 1.12.3 - which i hope will be out some time this week

Plex Media Server version 1.12.3.4947 has just been released as beta

It has a fix for caching bug where the cache was not correctly checked before making EPG requests to tmsapi.plex.tv. With this fix, the volume of requests should reduce significantly - 75% reduction has been observed. This should avoid getting Cloudflare rate limiting temporary IP Bans.

See Release Note http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1650553/#Comment_1650553

 • (DVR) HTTP request cache should properly check for file expiration when requesting celeb/series data. (#8405)

After updating to the new 1.12.3 beta, please make sure a manual EPG Refresh is done

@sa2000 Thank you for the info… I updated my PMS and, after several long hours of loading, my EPG finally updated. Unlike in the past, it did not populate any info until the full update got to 100%.

I’ll keep the thread updated as to weather my EPG continues to update or is it was a onetime deal. Thanks again for your assistance. Much appreciated!

Would like to mention here an EPG related hotfix

The hotfix release for the bug giving rise to lost airings and recordings between 00:00 and 01:00 GMT on the day the EPG is refreshed is now available as beta release 1.12.3.4973-215c28d86
