My library wont update, and plex is playing files that have been deleted from my NAS plus more

Server Version#: Version 1.20.2.3402
Player Version#: Version 4.44.1(?)
I’m not sure how to find my player version my shield, so any advice about that is appreciated if needed.

Good morning.

I’m having a few issues with Plex.

I have a NAS with unraid that has plex installed. I use my Nvidia Shield TV as the media player. No files are on the Shield and all of them are on the NAS. If it matters, I have a life time pass for plex.

  1. My server will not update new content I’ve added. I’ve updated plex on my NAS to the most recent version, removed the folder in plex and re added it. I’ve re analyzed the folder and rescanned the meta data several times.

Plex is also playing media files that are NOT on the server. I deleted them but they still are showing up and playing like normal.

The same issue where the deleted files will play(on my shield) and not update also happens when I use my web client to view my media, on my desk top PC.

  1. I am unable to reliably get subtitles within the plex app. It will say that there is nothing available.

  2. When I pause a media video, RR or FF it, often times the audio will be out of sync with the video. I can fix it by pausing the show and/or RRing it, but I’d like to not have to do this. I’ve used Kodi in the past and never had this issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You tagged this thread with “server-windows” but you say Plex is on your Unraid NAS. Which is it?

So to settings from the bottom of the sidebar. The version will be shown in the bottom right corner.

That is physically impossible. If the file is gone, there is no way it can be played.

If you did that, it would have removed all the content. Or do you mean it will recreate the library but with the same old content and nothing new is being detected?

Have you provided subtitles? Do you see them available in the Web client?

This is something being looked into.

well it’s happening buddy.

I recreated the library yes. I did not delete it from my NAS, but deleted the folder from plex

No they are not provided, I use the add subtitle function in plex. I can normally get 2 subtitles to load then it quits working.

Get Info shows the file location.

I deleted the files on plex again. If they come back up I’ll do that.

I am not sure if I understand your issues, but on the reappearing files, if you have media deletion disabled:

And you have automatic library scans:

Then if you “delete” a file, it will be rediscovered after a scan.

I have both of those enabled.

When you say they are not on the server, do you mean they are not shown in Plex or did you delete them from your NAS? If you are just referring to not appearing in PMS, how did you get rid of it? If you got rid of it, what are you doing to play them? If the poster is still there, then you haven’t gotten rid of it.

I removed them from my NAS, but they were still showing and playing via plex.

The poster was there, but I deleted them from my NAS manually so I know they were no more.

I re added the same show(different version), but it wont show up in my plex now and I have no idea what to do now. I have this issue with several shows/movies.

If you physically deleted the files from your NAS, there is no way they can be played. That just defies the laws of computers. There’s gotta be something else going on.

Can you provide a screenshot of the folder where the file is missing? Then playback that movie from Plex and get me the PMS logs. Plex Media Server Logs | Plex Support

I am so confused. Above you just said the poster are still there. Now you say they are not there. Huh?

That’s why I’m here.

I had a show(A) on my NAS that I deleted and it was still showing on plex and would play like it wasn’t deleted.

I removed the show(A) again from plex trying to get this fixed. I then re added the same show(B), but a different version to my NAS. Show A is not showing like it did, and does not exist on my NAS. Show B is now on my NAS, but it will not update in Plex.

So my issue is I can’t get my libraries to update.

Hope that helped.

Exactly what did you do to try to remove it from Plex?

If you readded the same show, it’s still show A so it will reuse the info from A

What do you mean not like it did? What changed?

Please provide the screenshots as mentioned before.
