When identifying PLEX were to find my media and I hit browse it cannot find my NAS drive. is there a way to make this work? I have a Synology DS1515, but i am considering a different NAS or Drive. What is the best NAS to use with PLEX?
If you just want to use it as storage and have Plex media server running somewhere else, the DS1515 should be capable of that. I have an older, less capable, Synology - but it still works as storage.
I’ve simply got that attached to a mount point (linux) and then pointed Plex to that for various libraries.
You will need to, if you haven’t already, enable one of the file sharing functions through DSM and then make sure that the files can be viewed through a file browser. Easiest for Windows would be enabling SMB of course, then you can just browse to the folders (depending on machine name), //DS1515/FileShareName/Folder/ etc or map as a network drive in Windows and point Plex at that.
I just mount my shared library as a drive on my windows PC that is running PLEX. You can’t get a NAS that can’t be mounted as a shared drive. That’s what they are for. All of my media are on the NAS and my PLEX server is running on a different box that mounts the server as an E:/ drive
