Cannot get Plex to find media folders on Synology NAS

I’m connecting Plex to my Synology DS918 NAS for the first time. I’m stuck at the step of getting Plex to “see” my media folders. My files are in a main share called “NAS918”. For example, all of my iPhone photos/videos are in a subfolder called “PhotosVideos”; but Plex only can see my NAS918 share folder and will not drill down to the “PhotosVideos” subfolder (and thus does not locate the media).

Is there a way for me to get Plex to see my subfolder, or do I have no other choice than to move that file to it’s own share (e.g., make “PhotosVideos” its own share)?

My preference is to warehouse one copy of my media in one place that can be accessed by any apps that I would choose to use (e.g., Plex, DS Video, DS Photo, Apple TV, etc.), but I am worried that may not be possible.

Review the Installation & Setup of Plex Media Server on Synology and Synology FAQ - Questions, Answers, and a few How-To’s documents as well.

They provide good information on how to run Plex on a Synology NAS. They also have information on pitfalls and how to avoid them.

Regarding file locations, it is recommended to not use the same locations as those used by the Synology apps. Synology reserves those for their apps. It will give Plex difficulties if you also use them for Plex (mentioned in the Install & Setup document).
