simple question, i just installed plex media server on a synology NAS server, but i cant add/find the files located on the nas server, i tried to google it and search this forum but cant find a clear thread on this topic.
when i click add media, i only find one folder that is called volume1 and one called config
Ok, I have the native app for plex installed, but as I wrote above, I need some guidance on how to add files I already have on my nas, and how/where to put files in the future etcetera.
Here is info on how plex is expecting files to be organized Your Media
using a movie library as an example the basics is
1 for movies make a folder for ALL your movies on your NAS.
2. in Plex when you create a movie library you tell it which folder has all your movies.
3. plex scans that folder and adds them all to it’s database and looks up information online for posters/ summaries
4. when you get a new movie you put the file is the same folder you put all your other movies.
5. plex scans the folder again and adds any new ones to database. ( there are options for how often it scans automatically or you can press a button to have it scan manually)
Yea I have gotten plex to work before, but before I mainly used my nas as a backup for my photo work, but if I for fun want to be able to view those pictures from my nas on my plex server will I have to have two separate copy’s of the files?
Ok I’ll try and explain what I see as good as I can, I have my nas server setup so that I can view its files as from a regular hard drive, but when in plex setup I don’t see the regular folder structure as I do in my file explorer.
In order for Plex to see your actual media shares, please take a look at this.
In it, I show how to grant access to user Plex so it can read the media shares.
The shares directly under the /volume1 folder which is being pointed to on the left.
When permission is granted for Plex to read them, you will be able to see and select them on the right pane.
