I am new to NAS and not overly technical. I have Plex on my TV and a Synology 2 drive server. The system has worked well for months. Yesterday it suddenly stopped working. When I select music or a movie on my Plex screen, it fails to play, gives me an error message, and movies are tagged as unavailable. If I sign into my server the content will play on my PC. The lights on my server are all lit. I have reloaded Plex on my TV and rebooted my server. The server is listed as a device on my Plex device page. I use ROKU and that is working fine. Everything seems to be there and functional, but my TV cannot read my server for some reason. Please keep it low tech. Thank you for your help.
Hello, Thank you for your help.
I rebooted my router and NAS and they both came back on correctly
I then downloaded Advanced IP scanner and saw that all my devices were there and all had a similar address.
I then looked up Question 18 on the Synology FAQ page and I checked my Read Write permissions. I did not see Plex there but I did see mnew (my name) and I assumed that this was my Plex account. It had Read Write permissions.
The files are still unavailable.
What should I try next?
Mike
Hello Trumpy,
I am trying to follow these instructions regarding Putty and WinSCP. I downloaded WinSCP but I have no idea what it is doing. I am looking up everything I read and I am overwhelmed. There is something I need to tell you. This was working for months. We had everything we needed. I don’t even see how to delete permissions. I have been trying for hours. This may just be all over my head, or I am not able to learn it in an afternoon. Is there another more basic set of instructions I can use. Can I just wipe something and re-install. Should I just sell this thing on Ebay and call Verizon and grovel? Please give me a hint. FAQ 14 and 18 are over my head.
Mike
Please read the FAQ carefully and follow the instructions.
If you would like, as a test (which saves your existing content)
- Stop Plex
- Open File Station
- Navigate to the Plex share
- Rename Library to Library.keep
- Open Control Panel - Shared Folders
- Scroll down to each of your media shares.
- Edit each one -> Permissions tab -> Add user plex to the list (check the box and save) if not listed.
- When done, Start Plex
- Navigate to http://ip.addr.of.Syno:32400/web
Hello Chuck and Trumpy,
Thank you for the helpful words. I have been working on this and I believe what happened is that the connection was lost with the NAS. I started from scratch and reset up the NAS and it allowed me to access my files from Plex. The access is different than it had been and I need to look into that again. I did buy a book on Amazon on setting up Synology NAS servers and that will help me learn the jargon and function of many of the tools much better. I do have access to my files, I am feeling much better about that, and I realize I need a three credit class on networking.
Thank you again.
Mike
