My plext is completely broken

ive been using plex for some time now and i recently set up a new rig and im having MAJOR problems with plex that seem to be unique to me. I installed the most recent version, i dont use a VPN so that isn the problem, on the local side, FROM the plex program, it tells me to download plex media server, and from the web side, nothing shows up but the preinstalled channels. Ive tried downgrading, uninstalling and reinstalling, outside of some matches and gasoline i dont know what i can do to fix it. heres some info if you need it

ryzen 5 2600x

amd vega 56 OC

windows 10

any advice is much appreciated.

Server Version#:1.16.3.1402
Player Version#: 3.104.2

What exactly are you missing?

  • Are you trying to add your own files and Plex won’t recognize them?
=> if that’s the case, please share some more details how your files are structured/named and connected to Plex

  • Do you miss some libraries previously shared with you?
=> you might need to double check with the friend who shared his media with you if they still do and/or make sure you still use the same Plex Account

  • Are you looking for media via plugins?
=> Plugins Are currently being phased out and are no longer directly accessible from most Plex apps (at least those used to stream various media)

  1. I can’t even get that far. When i start the server it says it cant find the server and that its look for it ( it never does find it) and when i go to the local side, to add my media, it just says download media server, so i can’t get as far getting them to recognize. It’s almost like the server doesnt know its a server.

  2. This is the rub, i logged in with a friends info, and their setup works fine on my pc, so its something specific with me.

  3. I dont know how to do that, so no i guess not.

if need be, i can record what happens so you can better get an understanding of hwats going on.

Does it make a difference if you access the server through the hosted or local web app?

No it doesn’t either way

  1. If its a new rig that never had plex on it, it will never find the server. You need to copy over your pre-existing library files to your new PC.

  2. Does your buddy have his on Plex server are is he using yours?

ex: Your server should point to ā€œC:\Users\yourwin10user%\AppData\Localā€. In this folder, you will find the Plex Media Server folder which essentially contains all your plex media data. If that folder is not there, go onto the computer that has that data, copy and paste it to that location on the currently used hard-drive.

My friend has his own data, i was just able to see it when I logged in with his info willingly gave to me.

Any of the previous data is not available anynore, as the drive was formatted. Also the path that was mentioned is already correct

i made a video of my issue that yo ucan watch at this link

forgot to mention that i had restarted as well.

I’m getting the following error when looking at your video…

This video is unavailable

Maybe some screenshots?

try it again, i made it public. but screenshots incoming.

Thx!
Do you get the same result wether you use http://127.0.0.1:32400/web or https://127.0.0.1:32400/web to load the server?
I haven’t been using Windows for some time so I didn’t recognize all the apps in your icon tray… do you have any security apps running in parallel that might interfere with the Plex client interacting with your local server install?

same result either way, and i made a exclusion in my antivirus, no change.

In that case I’m running out of ideas…
Could you maybe look for your serverā€˜s logs and attach them here? Considering the state of your server, you’ll have to collect the files manually.

There’s an instruction on how/where to find the logs in this support article… the Plex Media Server[1-5].log files should do… just zip them and then upload them. I’ll have a look tonight.

Logs.rar (11.5 MB)

@tom80H uploading logs, look at them whenever yo have time, appreciate the assist.

Noting immediately jumping into my eyes.
The only thing with halfway similar symptoms appears to be related to the server thinking it belongs to a different user and therefore not showing up. You can overcome that by deleting certain keys from your library and re-claiming it as described in this support article.

Might be worth a try before giving up entirely…

@tom80H im happy to report i FINALLY got it working. the keys were attached to my previous account, i deleted them and it instantly picked up my stuff! thanks so much for the help.
