My PMS asks me to install PMS on my Synology

Server Version#: 1.22.3.4523-6000
Player Version#:

Hello,
I used to have PSM running on a Synology DS416Play without any problem.
I have an account, and it works.
Now I want to switch my library to a Synology DS116.

I installed Plex Media Server. manually, after downloading a package from Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More. The package name is PlexMediaServer-1.22.3.4523-d0ce30438-armv7hf_neon_DSM6.spk.

I copied all my movies on my Synology DS116, with the following structure:

  • video
    – Movies
    — 0-9
    — ABC
    — XYZ
    – TV
It is the same structure I had on my DS416, I just copied from one NAS to the other.

On the DS116, I edited the permission of the video shared folder, and added the user plex with read only access rights.
I logged in on my Synology DS416, and stopped the PSM service.

I opened PSM on my DS116, and access it from my computer (Windows 10) at the address
http://192.168.0.45:32400/web/index.html#
I logged in on my existing account.
I cannot see my NAS. Since I don’t want to use my DS416, I deleted from my authorized devices list.

Problem is, I have no clue on how to link my new Nas to this account, nor how to add a new library :

  • on the settings => Authorized Devices, I don’t see my NAS nor any way to add a new device.
  • from the home menu => “Your Media”, I get a message “Add your media to plex”, then a button “Get Plex Media Server” as if it was not installed.
Worse, when I click on it, it redirects me to a page where it detects I am running Windows 10… It wants to install it on my client machine, not on the NAS.

So it seems my Plex Media Server wants me to install Plex Media Server.

What should I do?

Thanks!

Can you confirm:

  • 192.168.0.45 is the IP address of your new Synology NAS?
  • your Syno is running DSM 6?

Some more questions:
Did you move the Plex server data directory as well or only your media?

Thanks for your answer.

192.168.0.45 is the IP Address of my Synology DS116. When I click on Plex Media Server from the desktop, it launches a new page at http://192.168.0.45:32400/web/index.html#!

I just checked, my Syno is running DSM 6.2.4-25556

I copied only the media files, I expected the paths and metadatas added by Plex would be different, so my idea was to add the folder in a new library for PSM to scan and consider it new.

Did you at some point run this new server under a different Plex account?

I believe yes, at some point the NAS belonged to someone else.
But I resetted it (using a pin), so I reinstalled the DSM completely.

IT WORKED! It was indeed the problem. Thanks thanks and thanks again!
