My PMS is not playing any music from music library.

Hi,

I’ve recently updated my PMS to 1.2.7.2987 and since then and since I’ve moved my cache folder on D: drive I’m unable to play any music from premium music library neither on plex pc app nor on any mobile device and/or Chromecast.

I’ve tried to restart PMS several times and also recraeted music library from scratch but issue persists.
I’m very upset about that since I mainly like to listen music with PMS and considering also the amount of money I’ve invested on this project.

Please Advice ASAP.

BR.

Up - feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

What cache folder?
How did you move it?
I am not aware that you can move a ‘cache’ folder.

What you can do is moving the whole Plex data folder.
But there are a few caveats, when doing that:

  • only to local drives (no network shares!)
  • the filesystem must support Symbolic Links (which in the Windows world means the filesystem must be NTFS, not ReFS which is used with ‘Windows Storage Spaces’ ← ‘pooled’ drives)

Here is the procedure in full, if you did not do it that way, your plex data might be unusable now:

Hi Otto thanks for your feedback, Let me check this once I’ll be at home (currently at work), but I can say for sure I did the following:

  • Removed the Default plex data folder since it was taking too much space on my c: drive
  • Stopped/started Plex server
  • Changed the path of the Plex data folder from within the Options menu and moved to my D: drive (which btw it’s a separate local hard drive on the same pc where PMS is running that I use for storage and it’s NTFS for sure)
  • Stopped/started PMS again
  • recreated my libraries from scratch.

The fact is that my video library works fine (videos played flawlessly on any device) while music doesn’t ( it is played only on my android mobile phone with plex app v5.1.2.271) on other devices, including Chromecast and plex pc app, tracks keep constantly skipping each time I attempt to play them.

Your procedure looks quite right. (Although my version would’ve saved you the recreation of your library.)
I think then it is safe to say that the issue you are experiencing is not caused by the move to D:

  • do a simple playback attempt of an album in the web app
  • wait 2 minutes,
  • grab the server logs

Thanks again Otto,

I will check and update you with the log ASAP.

Hi I’ve checked the logs as per Otto advice and consinstently found this error for each unplayed song:

It looks like something related with the data associated to the file… hope this helps.

Let me know if more infos are required.

Could you also enable debug logging in the web client and fetch logs too after the issue occured?

And I need a complete log, not just a snippet.

HI,

you can find the debug log file in attach.

BR

The complete server log too, please.

here they are… (attached)

quick question: does the file get playable, if you Plex Dance the album (you can omit step 4 with music)?

Not tried the dance yet, but I’ve done this:

-uninstalled plex media server from my pc
-deleted data folder
-rebooted pc
-reinstalled plex media server
-set default data folder into plex options
-re created libraries

Issue persist plus I see tons of these into the log:

Nov 15, 2016 21:50:35.803 [12180] ERROR - [Transcoder] [NULL @ 00c52000] couldn’t reallocate buffer of size 876610239

Might help?

Is there a way to perform a clean uninstall/reinstall of the product?

Thanks.

Please don’t do it that way. Plex needs quite some time after installation/library creation to get ‘comfortable’.
This deleting/reinstalling all the time might obfuscate the real issues.

Hi,

Good news at last:

Apparently the “Dance” did the trick.

I’ve identified a couple of folders into my music library which for some reason forced plex scanner to go into a sort of “infinite loop” hence the library scan didn’t complete.

I’ll do some other checks and update eventually
