There’s already another feature suggestion discussing an option to group/collapse editions in a single library item.
It seems that there are two preferred ways of dealing with editions. Those who consider an edition as something independent and those who would like to have the editions combined.
Currently, with the newly implemented feature of editions, there is only the first option. Here I wish that at least the general possibility to deactivate this and to combine editions into one is made possible.

I suggest you comment/vote in those suggestions to avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes from each other. Unless I’ve missed some unique aspect of your suggestion I’ll close this thread as a duplicate.
