[NAS] [Synology] [Web UI] Plex Web App Not Loading — Blank White Screen / No Response

Server Version #: 1.41.4.9463
Player Version #: N/A (web app doesn’t load)
NAS Model: Synology NAS (DSM 7.x)
Network Setup: ASUS router | QuickConnect enabled | Port 32400 manually forwarded

Description

I’m running Plex on my Synology NAS and have been stuck on an issue where the Plex Web App never loads. The package installs and starts up fine, but clicking “Open” from Package Center or visiting http://::32400/web just results in a blank white screen that spins indefinitely — no errors, no timeouts.

I’ve tried multiple browsers (Firefox, Safari) and tested both locally and remotely, with the same result.

What I’ve Tried

  • Restarted both NAS and router

  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Plex several times

  • Tried static IP/DNS and DHCP

  • Forwarded port 32400 on both NAS and router

  • Configured firewall for Plex, then disabled DSM firewall entirely

  • Removed all Plex-related port forwarding and firewall rules to start fresh

  • Verified that other Synology apps load normally (Photo Station, Docker, etc.)

  • Confirmed NAS connectivity via ping and QuickConnect

Additional Notes

  • I can connect remotely through QuickConnect and other apps without issue.

  • I read that QuickConnect can sometimes interfere with Plex’s web interface, but disabling it requires SSH, which I haven’t tested yet.

  • I also tried installing Plex manually using the SPK package from Plex’s website (rather than the Synology-hosted version, which can lag behind). Same issue — installation succeeds, but the web app never loads.

What I Suspect

  • Some kind of internal DSM firewall or network binding conflict that’s blocking Plex from serving the web interface

  • A QuickConnect or VPN routing issue that’s preventing access on port 32400

  • A stale configuration or permission file left over from a previous Plex install

Next Steps I’m Considering

  • Disable QuickConnect temporarily via SSH to test direct LAN access

  • Review DSM firewall and network interface settings for hidden or automatic rules

  • Reinstall Plex in Container Manager (Docker) for a cleaner network environment

Question

Has anyone else run into this on Synology — where Plex runs but the web interface never loads (blank page indefinitely)?

Any ideas or known fixes would be greatly appreciated!

Are you local to or remote from the NAS?

If local, connecting via the IP address of the NAS bypasses QuickConnect.

If you have a VPN on the NAS, disable it, stop Plex Media Server, wait one minute, then start Plex Media Server.

Many NAS VPNs do not support split-tunneling, resulting in Plex Media Server being isolated from the other devices on the network.

You can disable QuickConnect via Synology Control Panel → External Access. No SSH required.

That worked perfectly — thank you! :folded_hands: The issue was that I was trying to connect through QuickConnect instead of accessing Plex directly on my network. Once I disabled QuickConnect under Control Panel → External Access and connected locally via my NAS IP address (http://<NAS-IP>:32400/web), the Plex web app loaded right away. I didn’t need to change anything else — just connecting locally solved it. Everything’s working smoothly now. Really appreciate the help and clear explanation!
