I think adding support for IPTV (.m3u) is a necessary addition to the Plex suite. More and more TV providers are moving towards providing TV over the internet as it provides benefits that over-the-air does not. Our national television in NZ (known as Freeview) broadcasts over IPTV or using a special statelite. I would really like to be able to connect my Plex Server to Freeview via IPTV so that I can record shows that I like. I know that I can do it using third party software such as TellyTV, but I still think that native support is necessary.
Use TVHeadend and integrate Plex to it via tvhProxy. That’s what I do to combine OTA with IPTV into one channel lineup inside Plex.
I run my Plex server on a QNAP NAS and managed to get TellyTV working in a container so I’ve been using that for the past month and a bit. It works quite well.
Are there any good tutorials for these things? Im quite tech savvy and had a terrible time trying to get these things going that you guys mentioned. I currently use Tivimate, but would prefer to integrate everything into Plex. It makes sense for Plex to have IPTV integrated in it, its weird that its not there… Its quite a beast to tackle though, so i cant really blame them…
