Navigating to app.plex.tv/desktop says my plex server is unreachable

I was following a guide that instructed to go to app.plex.tv/desktop to install plugins (just starting out with plex and exploring a bit).
The page shows ‘Unable to connect to “myserver” securely.’.
My plex server is indeed running without an SSL certificate on the 32400 port.
NOTE: Video plays fine on a TV and on a laptop. I’m not looking to have it reachable from outside( I disabled this feature).

In the browser console under the network tab I see calls being done to:
http://192-168-1-5.0abcdefghijklmnop.plex.direct:32400
The address does not resolve. It seems obvious it should resolve to 192.168.1.5 (the plex server), but it doesn’t. It’s unclear why these constructs are necessary. I type in the IP of the server. The server knows his own IP so it can easily direct the browser to that IP.

The page also shows “Do you want to allow insecure connections?” and when I click on ‘only once’ the browser seems to be stuck in an infinite loop.
In the browser console under the network tab I see:
app.plex.tv/desktop?secure=0 being requested. Over and over.
11.18kb data.

Why is plex needing to do calls out my network? I set up a server. So a machine that serves the software. Why involve another one when I have one myself and puts up another piece of the puzzle that can fail?

Is this even supposed to work or is this an old guide that leads to broken code (the article was updated on 18th december 2018)?

I previously installed a plugin manually (extracting the zip in the plugins directory on the server) and hoped there was a way through the GUI as well with a list of the available plugins.

If I connect to the plex server and go to Settings and Plugins there’s basically nothing I can do there.

Thanks in advance.

This seems like a DNS resolver issue. I changed the system to use a google DNS and it just brings me to the normal interface.

Still unclear what the Plugins button actually does. Same with Playlists.
They load a page with basically nothing on them. I can’t create a playlist.
I can’t install a plugin or see what plugins are installed, there are basically no options there except for iTunes which I do not use.
What are these pages for?

Is there a possibility to remove Tidal, Podcasts, … ?
