I will try to contain my anger and approach this rationally but WTF is going on with this EXPLETIVE DELETED ???
I had a recording set to record NBC news off my HDHomerun prime. This used to work. Now it doesn’t. I have the same settings for ABC news and that seems to contiune to work.
I have no transcoding going on. I have tried and re-tried every setting to keep it simple (ie rercord every episode, any channel, any resolution)
I have verified the tuner and the NBC channels (all of them / all resolutions) work - THEY F-ING DO.
WTF IS GOING ON ?
“MEET THE PRESS” is also failing which is another NBC network show. I have examined to HDHomerun Prime channel listing to see if perhaps there’s DRM suddenly applied to NBC, but it does NOT indicate that NBC is a DRM channel. NBC used to work nowit does not G^D-D#mit.
I am unfamiliar with Plex’s debugging & logging features. After seeing your post (johnm_ColaSC - and thanks for responding btw), I have looked at the settings tab. I see DEBUG under Web, there I see enable/disable & verbose. I just set this to ENABLE.
When I click the “look here” link what i see at the moment is short statements that look like programming code - its gibberish to me. Nothing I see there looks relevant to the DVR or scheduling or recording or tuning. I have just “enabled” this so I’ll keep an eye out.
Under the “HELP” tab I see “download logs”. Once again, I see nothing that makes any sense to me. What I see is a zip file with a ■■■■ load of different “logs” - none of which are clear to me worthy of exploring on this issue ie none of the zipped file entries has a name that would indicate content dealing with recording or tuner or schedule.
In the mean time, I have gone under the DVR tab - (WHERE THE G_D DAM RELEVANT LOGS SHOULD BE but aren’t !) and deleted the dvr then re-installed it and rechecked my recording setting for NBC Nightly NEWS and updated EVERY F’ing thing. I’ll wait for this evening to see what happens - I don’t know what else to do ???
Thanks very much for your help, John. I’m still mad as hell but I honestly do appreciate any help I can get
FYI, the Plex Media Server log files are the most appropriate for looking at when recordings start, while they are recording, when they end, and anything happening with them after recording end such as being removed by Garbage Collection for some reason. With Debug logging turned on should see more information about the recordings, just don’t want verbose logging turned on unless a Plex Employee asks you to turn it on. If you can post the zip file of logs after this happens again I can try to look at them. Please also make sure you have the “Allow Plex Media Server tokens in logs” option is turned off. Leaving it turned on will allow your servers unique token to be included in the log files. With it turned off you will see something like (xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) wherever the token would normally be displayed.
IT HAPPENED AGAIN.
verbose is off
tokens off also
As I read the warning for the “Allow tokens” setting, I see the following :“Don’t share logs containing tokens publicly.” so how do I get the logs zip to you without unwittingly compromising my info ?
Once again, thank you very much for taking the time ! (please feel free to yell, cuss, and scream as needed. I won’t be offended or upset in the least )
I see where a NBC News starts recording and when it gets to 100% recorded. I am not seeing where it is ever moved from grab folder to library location. Wondering if it is still being transcoded at the time the logs were grabbed. Would also like to see if you can update to 1.8.1 Plex Media Server, from log you are running 1.7.5:

Maybe a Plex Ninja can see something different from what I see. @DaveBinM
-"_Wondering if it is still being transcoded at the time the logs were grabbed. _"
logs were grabbed around 7:50pm, recording Airtime would have concluded around 7pm - I don’t know how long transcoding would take ?
I’ve tried a little to figure out how to update my Plex but it will require some more research on my part- I’m running an Unraid Docker and updates are handle automatically so I’m unfamiliar (at this time) with manually intervening and applying an update myself.
but keep in mind everything worked fine for weeks & weeks untill recently, also ABC News recording continues to function as it always has - just NBC is crapping out - it’s all NBC channels and so far ONLY NBC programming.
I did make a change recently with Comcast on my TV - thats really the only thing that’s changed. The NBC channels work just fine LIVE, and looking at the HDHomerun cable card info screens, the NBC channels show up in the listings and I verified that there’s no DRM flag for those channels.
Maybe I should just set fire to the house and pack up and move to a different town and skip TV altogether
It is possible that the show was still being transcoded. Log seemed to end at 16:50:57.565, not 19:50, in file you uploaded. I am not seeing shows taking this long to be transcoded on my system but on a lower spec system I could see it possibly being a problem. My system is by no means current with todays processors, running a 3-4 year old Intel i5 processor. I am seeing times of roughly 9-10 minutes from show ending to being in my Library, and that is with post processing using mcebuddy to remove commercials and convert from ts to mp4. I have seen other posts on forum regarding transcoding that doesn’t end and the Transcode process aborting. In the reports I’ve seen with transcoder process no shows were finishing until server was rebooted.
Should I reboot the server ? (the Plex docker has been rebooted several times already)
As far as the time of the file, 19:50 is the timestamp of the .zip file in Win OS
I can re-download the log.zip ? Should I time it so I get the log within say an hour of the ending time of NBC recording or doesn’t matter ? My hardware’s running on a Xenon something or other - it seems to have plenty of horsepower
Did a complete uninstall, then reinstalled using a Plex “official” repository. My original installation was via a Limetec repo.
Not sure what’s going on at this point (or why something that worked fine for months just failed all the sudden) but moving to the Plex Repo I am now up to v1.8.1.4139. I will follow up with my “progress”. Thanks !
OK. Second reinstall and it appears to be working ( like it did before it mysteriously DIDN’T). I’m still not sure what happened and I can only hope this one continues to work. Thanks.
