hi, i have a library with 2 folders, sometimes i need to move a show from one folder to the other. this causes the show to spring back up on recently added and also changes the cover art…
is there anyway to have this not happen?

this guide/procedure should do the trick
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201154537-move-media-content-to-a-new-location/
If you are moving from one library to another, for example, “My Movies 1” to “My Movies 2”, I don’t think there is any way to avoid having it pop up on recently added.
It is after all, a new item in the media library you have moved it to. I hope someone can show you a way to do it, I could find that useful sometimes.
No it’s within a single library that has 2 folders.
If your media is all properly matched, moving the way @tom80H suggested works perfectly. I have some libraries that originally used the old legacy agents. They have been upgraded to the new agents, but I found if I “Refresh Metadata” on the item before moving it, to make sure it’s matched with the new agent, it won’t show up in “Recently Added”
cool, so its the copying to new location part of the guide that should work for me?
the only thing different in that part of the guide from what i normally do is that plex would still be running, i cant try it yet and im doubtfull it would make a difference.
normally i make a copy of the show in the other folder just to make sure its right, then delete the original, then boom its at the top of recently added with different cover art… wierd
just thought id mention that my server has never used any legacy agents
I usually shut down the server, but if the new folder is on the same drive, I might not. Plex usually recognizes the file magically as the same file, just in a different location. Plex might show it as having two versions (one as “Unavailable”), and you’ll have to delete the old one one or empty trash, etc. That’s not following the guide, but it might work ![]()
I pick a time when there’s no activity on the server, shut it down, and do it as the guide suggests in most cases.
thank you, i’ll try it asap. and yeah the other folder is on a different hdd
that worked, thanks guys
