Need Help Troubleshoot Why Remote Access is Indirect Outside of Network?!

Hi all,

I’m having a hard time troubleshooting the indirect only connection. Can anyone help me figure out how to get to the bottom of it? Here’s my setup:

  • Dedicated Arch Linux machine running PMS (192.168.1.141)
  • Ubiquiti USG Router (192.168.1.10)
  • PiVPN (192.168.1.31/10.6.0.2) running Wireguard
  • PiHole (192.168.1.31/10.6.0.2)

Here’s what I’ve been doing/observing:

  • UniFi is setup for port forwarding to 32400 for inbound traffic
  • I am not able to connect the server directly from outside networks, it will always be indirect
  • I am able to connect directly to the server from outside networks through the web app IF the client is connected to the WireGuard VPN

My hunch is the VPN/DNS sinkhole are the culprit, but I am not quite clear what the approach for troubleshooting would be. Any pointers?
