I would like to setup a new recording for a show that was in my agenda (in the past now), I’ve since deleted from recording setup. However since there are no upcoming broadcast dates in the guide I’m not able to set up a new recording ahead of time. I should not have to find a specific broadcast in the guide first, at least not when I have a saved broadcast of the show in my library (Plex should have enough to work with that?)
I have still have the existing broadcast recorded, but there’s no option to setup (or re-establish a new recording from this alone), and since there are no upcoming example – I’m not able to just tell Plex record this whole series, this whole show, the sports teams etc.
Also: there should also be a recently deleted or previous setup list of configured recording, so you can return them into active recordings — that would have helped
I’m not sure how plex would know what channel to look at to set up a series link. You may have a different experience on other hardware but I dont know of any system that can add a series link from a previous recording without having upcoming dates in the guide. Might be a nice feature to have a series watch that will monitor premiere dates for shows in plex and alert you if not set up to record
You can follow a sports team, unrelated to a specific broadcast, I should be able to re-stablish a new recording for upcoming team without finding a specific existing broadcast in scope. It’s just a matter of logic – instead of having me find one first, and Plex could be smart enough – other system also do this no problem.
An easier improvement might include keeping ‘recently deleted’ agenda items prior to completely discarding, so it would be easy for me to restore the details, even a toggle on the recording Active v Inactive instead of just deleting, seems the only option is to delete them (not temporarily suspend).
If a previously recorded show also kept the details (show ID, series data) in the metadata used when recording, you could easily actually re-establish the new recording from your library without having to find a new upcoming broadcast (meaning store the show ID alongside other details, if that not already being done).
Next I have the recording agenda setup on Server A, it should be possible to take that item and provide to Server B (same guide, same house etc), I have the data/details, but not the means for configure Server B, or backup, or keep my prior recording agenda items anywhere. Probably low demand for this concept.
“I’m not sure how plex would know what channel”
How about Any? Plex doesn’t need to know which channel --it can record a show that appears on any channel, but I think it’s currently written to look for the show ID first, thus finding something on the guide in order to have a starting point.
I wonder if a search in the database for any current recording rule to use as a template to insert a program that isn’t in the guide at the moment? Other than that, leave yourself a reminder every two weeks to search the guide for an upcoming listing (!).
