unless you’ve permitted/forwarded UDP traffic from your WAN interface to those specific Plex ports (which you shouldn’t and is not default) you’re got nothing to worry about with that issue. Plex needs no UDP ports allowed from the WAN side period.
So it’s crap you’ve been left behind version wise, but nothing to worry about security wise unless you’ve opened a hole you don’t need.
C’mon PLEX, when will you take the security of your customers seriously?
If it is anything like it is on NAS systems then it is Netgear that needs to get actioning on this, but let’s be honest here… Netgear does not have a reputation for supporting it’s own products let alone another companies services.
To be fair this is a collaboration between PLEX and Netgear, so one can’t really hide behind another. PLEX should get their act together and make sure Netgear pushes their latest updates on these systems or step away from this partnership.
If the lack of updates continues I think I will make the move to another (server)platform. That being said I find it highly troublesome and disappointing how Plex is handling this situation.
The whole reason I bought this Netgear product in the first place it because Plex themselves announced their partnership on this. But it seems its nothing more than a quick cash grab from the side of Plex as they clearly don’t care that their users/customers get a safe and up to date environment.
