I’ve installed quite a few times now the latest Plex Media Server for Netgear (Intel 64-bit), but I never get to see the server setup wizard and I’m not able to add contents or map folders where I have my media files. Every I click on the “+ Your Media” link to add my media, etc. it takes me to a page to download a server instead, which is ironic because I’m logged into the server itself!
I’m in a loop here and don’t know what to do. PLEASE HELP!
This is the wizard I’m expecting to see or any means to map my media drives to setup my server:
I’ve got the same problem on a ReadyNAS 214. I’m downloading the armel version (plexmediaserver-annapurna_1.20.3.3437-f1f08d65b_armel.deb) of course, but I get the same result. I launch the application, and I get taken to the page: http://192.168.1.248:32400/web/index.html
which is where I expect to see a wizard to add my server, or to find the server is already installed and detected. Instead, as the original poster wrote, clicking on + Your Media takes me to the download page. Attempting to download the package here tries to load it on the computer I’m accessing the NAS from.
Plex Media Server version is 1.20.3.3437, which I got from Plex today, so I know it’s current. I have screenshots, but can’t figure out how to attach them. Any ideas?
In my case, I was using a custom DNS server in my network and I was trying to access the Plex server using the complete qualified domain… Something like: http://plex.mydomain.com:portnumber
When I tried the same URL without the domain, only then it worked as appropriate: http://plex:portnumber
I think, the application ‘thinks’ that it’s being accessed from outside your network and that’s how it behaves showing the downloads page, instead of the server connection page.
Thanks for the note, but I don’t understand what I should be trying. My NAS is 192.168.1.248 and the computer I manage it from is 192.168.1.242. Obviously those are private IPs and I don’t access by name, but by actual IP address. I know specifically defined IPs make altering things harder, but I like knowing exactly where things are coming from and going to when I have a problem.
When I launch PlexMS from my NAS, it brings up a browser with the URL http://192.168.1.248:32400/web/index.html which I assume means the NAS is running the Plex client, not the server. I also installed the Plex Server on my computer, and launching it from http://192.168.1.242:32400/web/index.html does work as expected, except that Roku on my TCL TV still can’t find the server. I don’t think the problem is network related, because I installed Rygel on the computer, and the TV sees that just fine. (Rygel may work, but the interface is terrible - no folders to sort things, just a mass of alphabetically organized entries.)
Anyway, as I said, I don’t understand your suggestion of things to try. Could you grind it up a bit finer for me?
I have this exact issue. I even installed it a PC and it will not find or use my readynas. I will have to switch back to emby. This software clearly isnt ready for use and should be patched to work. Foolish me for buying the lifetime as I knew someone who swears by plex. This is just a bad software for media at this time.
