Netgear Readynas RN104 Unable to display Plex Media Server Icon

Server Version#: 4.136.1
Player Version#: 1.41.0.8992
<Dear Plex Experts & Forum Members

My problem may be simple, I hope, or difficult, I just don’t know but I am hoping that someone has the solution.

The Background

I have 3 x ReadyNas DuoV2.0, 1 x ReadyNas RN102 & 1 x ReadyNas RN104.

The problem is this, every time I access my Plex databases, via my Roku devices, all my servers, except the RN104, displays their databases via their respective Plex Media Sever Icons. In other words, the RN104 does not have a PMS icon. However, I can still access and play my movies and music videos on my RN104 via the Netgear icon but the experience would be better if I had a PMS icon for that server.

So my question is this, is there a facility within the server settings that can switch on the PMS icon on my RN104?

Please let me know if further clarification is needed, to clarify my problem, or if you have questions that may help to cast light on this small but annoying problem.

Please note, the Server Version number I got from the “Plex Web - General page” on my RN104 and the Player Version number I got from the “Server General page”.

Thanks, in advance.

I think these values are flipped. Can you update your PMSs to the latest version? See our Downloads page.

Hi Atomatth

Thank you for your quick reply. I must admit, I was not sure if my Server and Player version numbers were correct, I just copied them from the Plex Web and Server General pages, it was not clear which number belonged to which item.

Anyway, I have downloaded the latest version of the PMS software, as you directed. However, I am somewhat weary of installing this update over the working and stable PMS application I now have.

Plus, and I guess you know, there are some horror stories from other PMS users who have written about the problems they are having after installing the latest PMS software.

I am going to hold off on installing PMS 1.43.0.1x until I do some more investigating into what other users think of this update.

Anyway, cheers Atomatth

I’m not sure about any horror stories or any major regression being reported. I can say that 1.43.0 was one of longest betas when it was in beta. It has also been in the public release cycle for almost a month. Most of the issue I’ve seen related to 1.43.0 was actually for our deb/rpm repo and signature processes which wouldn’t apply to Netgear.

Are all your servers running the same version? There was a security issue between 1.41.7.x to 1.42.0.x..

Hi again Atomatth

I am running the 1.41x versions of Plex on both my RN102 and RN104 servers, so I will still take a look around the forum to see if anyone has run into any problems with v.1.43x.

However, the problem that I originally had, ie. RN104 will not display the Plex icon, I have found the solution. You see, my quick discussion with you yesterday prompted me to look through the Plex database settings, and I found the following: Under Settings/DLNA I found an unticked tick box entitled “Enable the DLNA server”. I then ticked this box and, when looking this morning, found a fully working Plex Icon for my RN104 server.

So thanks to your prompting I found the solution I was looking for.

Cheers Atomatth

Hi again Atomatth (and other interested forum members)

Just out of interest, I had an irrational urge/prompt to buy a Netgear RN102 (in fact, another one) I spotted on Ebay (UK).

On delivery, my simple plan is to load up Netgear’s firmware ver. 6.10.10 and PMS ver. 1.43x, and see what happens afterwards.

If everything is AOK I will proceed to populate the new (old) server with additional backup data. If not, then I will report back with the problems I find.
