Netwrok error s1001 on PMS 1.16.0.1226

Server Version#: 1.16.0.1226
Player Version#: Same
Hi all,

I have a WD My Passport Wireless Pro with Plex installed. This has worked for more than a year without major issues, and after a lot of optimizations.
Because of a database corruption (don’t ask why because i don’t know), i wasn’t able to recover my libraries and had to rebuild my server from scratch, and rebuild my libraries…
Anyway, going to the problem i have, when i started the rebuild PMS was at version 1.15.x. and i was not able to play anything (videos or music) from my Android mobile that i use with latest Plex Pass betas. More recently i was trying to use the web player and noticed that it wouldn’t play as well, and i get a message related to network issue with the error code s1001. I searched for other threads and nothing is helping me.
Last night i rebuild my server again, and the version that WD downloaded was 1.16.0.1226. The problem still remains.
I have activated debug and verbose logs, and collected them (see attached). Looking at the logs, i cannot find the s1001 error code… would like to sort this out and am happy to proceed with any suggestions. Just need your guidance.
I saw some threads referring that going back to older versions would sort it out, but how can i get an older version of Plex for my WD My Passport Wireless Pro? If someone can share your bin files available on /shares/Storage/.wdcache, would be great.

Thanks,

Start by fixing the network issue, that may take care of the database error.

Under settings>server>network: Advanced, set Preferred Network Interface to be your br0(xxx.xxx.60.1), right now it is choosing wlan1(xxx.xxx.100.146)

Hi Tieberius,

Normally i would have the device using IP address range within my home network range.
Are you saying i need to use 192.168.60.1 all the time? how would that work for external access to my plex server?

If that is the Wired IP on your local lan then yes. I don’t fully understand why you have the WLAN other than you might have AP isolation.

External access is usually setup as a port forward rule on your router like so:

PublicIP:randomport <> Firewall <> InternalIP:32400

So, the WD MPWP devide is a very simple NAS that only has wireless. It can work as AP, or as a bridge (being connected to your home wifi). This device has the option of using both 2.4 and 5 GHz , or just one of them. So, in practice, i can connect to it from the 192.168.60.1 using an SSID for 2.4GHz network, or SSID for 5GHz nextwork, or, and this is how i normally use it, i configure it to connect to my wifi network and i have my laptops, tablets, connecting to home network.

From a troubleshooting perspective, i’ll do the following when arrive home:
Enable just one of the wifi networks from the device, without being connected to my router. this will mean plex will be accessible from 192.168.60.1. Will connect my laptop to this network and try to reproduce the problem.
Question - do i need to do anything else to capture the logs?

Thanks,
Johnny Bravo

Just to add that this WD device does not have a LAN interface.

That does put things into perspective, choose whichever interface has internet access. If you don’t have an Access Point/Router that Plex is connecting to then things get quite a bit more convoluted.

Which log should i search for the s1001 error? Or does it appear differently on the log?

You really don’t want the IP of Plex Server changing frequently, well at all since remote access will fail.
“Plex Media Server.log” but that error is not appearing in the log. Is this showing on the client during playback? During one of the version changes, it became necessary to re-analyze some of the media, I would try that to see if the file will then play. The other cause was a url in the pre-roll field.

Hummm. Interesting, 192.168.100.200 is the internal IP address i normally use for my server. As i mentioned, i rebuilt it from scratch yesterday, and i erased the .plexmediaserver directory completely, so would not expect to see it on the logs…

The other point about analyzing media, i don’t see a point ( i may be wrong), since i recreated the server and had to create a new library, add media to it and its metadata captured from internet. Do i still need to re-analyze media?

I never see the file start to play, and after some seconds (30? or so) the message with “Error code s1001 (network)” is presented on the web player. If i use the android mobile plex client, i only see the spinning wheel round and round . No errors presented. It just stays like that forever.

So, here are some updates.
Arrived home and reconfigured network settings so that i can have internet connectivity from my WD device, and also external access. Made some tests and this is working fine. I can browse my libraries from my phone (only connected through 4G, and not wifi).

Although i am still not able to play the music files. I looked into the console and filterered by errors and warnings and got the info in below

This made me rethink about what Tiebierius suggested previously. So i went and tried to analyze my music files. No matter what i did manually, at the library level, album or track, analyzis didn’t seem to start. Is this normal or expected? So, i went to settings and configured it to run deep analysis during maintenance as a scheduled task. I had to tweak the time for scheduled tasks to start. I was able to see that the butler had analyzed x items. Although when i try to play my music files, they just don’t.
I attached my device to my laptop and i can play the files without any issues on many different players.

I’m running out of ideas here. Can anyone help? I am uploading the latest collected logs and DB. Let me know what else can i do.

For the logging, keep debug but uncheck verbose.

I don’t have a WD product so I am guessing here. Plex usually installs as the plex user and if you direct copied files over is it possible that it has different owner and permissions that the server is unable to read?

Hi, i run ls -l to get permissions for one of the folders that contains music i am trying to run. See below:

I believe this should be ok.

hey everyone, just wanted to share with you how i sorted out my problem. In the end folder/file permissions was causing this. So, to fix the problem, i connected my drive to a Windows system and found out that the folders where i have my media had a special permission from Windows as you can see below on the picture.

As soon as i removed those “Read-only” permissions, every thing was fine again.
