If I launch the web app from the icon on the taskbar of my server, The activity tab does not show the new activity screen just the old version.
However if I launch it via the link in the announcement above the new screen shows correctly, is this expected behaviour? If so is there a way of launching the new version from the taskbar icon?
I am running plex Version 1.14.1.5488 and this has web client Version 3.77.4
You’ll need the latest version of the Plex Media Server (v1.14.1 or newer) and our web app (v3.81.1 or newer; available now in our hosted web app and coming to the bundled server version soon) to see all this deliciousness.
From the Plex Media Server release notes for v1.14.1 (public):
Certainly there aren’t two versions, plex.tv simply runs the most recent version. From a QA perspective they likely receive the best analytics and error reporting from the web app running on infrastructure they manage. When a large feature like dashboards lands you can expect the bundled version to lag behind more than usual because the feedback loop is tighter for plex.tv. They don’t want to have to run builds for n platforms just to introduce bug fixes for the web app. Modern CI/CD could make this trivial but you are still left with the bandwidth required for everyone to download updates. All of this is speculative, of course.
@StSimm1 IIRC the web app used to be bundled differently or served from a CDN because it could be updated independent from the sever. I’m sure there were internal factors that led to the removal of this “feature” but do you know of any plans to reintroduce it? I would love to be able to opt in to the bleeding edge plex.tv version.
