Previously, I changed the settings for my main movie library from the default agent and have been manually matching my content. I did this because Plex would periodically change my chosen film posters undoing most of the work I’d put in. When matching I’d would use the “Plex Movie” agent, now Plex Movie Legacy agent. However, I recently decided to give the new one a try and switched the library over to it.
The issue I’m now having it Plex seems to be adding genres that either do not match my language and/or seem nonsensical. It also still changes my selected posters which I presumed were supposed to be locked if I choose custom ones. Is there any way to solve these issues? See image for genres.
Also, I don’t know if it’s relevant but when editing the library and selecting the new Plex Movie agent I was never prompted with the warning that says “Upgrade Library Matching” mentioned in the “Introducing the new Plex Movie agent” post nor do I have an option to “Upgrade Matching”.
that warning only shows if you actually select “Upgrade Matching” from the menu while another agent is selected for that library. it won’t show if you manually change the agent to Plex Movie in the drop down instead which I think most people do not do so it might be related.
The “Upgrade Matching” option will only show if the library agent is not the new Plex Movie.
I just made a test file with that movie and it match up fine and has normal Genres. I’m going to show your XML to one of the metadata devs to see if they can figure out where it came from. Those Genres are from like 3 different languages which is really weird.
Should I instead not manually change the agent for other libraries but instead use the “Upgrade Matching” menu item? Also, when upgrading will my chosen posters be respected and not changed? Or is that unavoidable? I initially changed the agent a while back because the server seemed to be randomly reverting to default poster art. I changed this long before the new Plex Movie agent.
I can only say it kept all of my custom posters when I upgraded fine. We have had reports of posters changing for folks before but none of us afaik has ever been able to reproduce it.
If it helps at all, I tried adding a new library with the default settings and pointing it to the same files and it seemed to scan everything in, including the film above, with only relevant English genres.
Ideally I’d like to keep my current library because of the work I’ve done with choosing posters, etc, but could the better solution just be sucking it up and starting from scratch/rescanning with a new lib?
I mean while I am waiting to get info from devs what might have happened making a new library pointing at same folders is not a horrible idea. just don’t delete the old one yet which you can use to compare which custom edits you need to make in new one at least.
I’ll do that. Honestly, I’ve backed up and migrated these Plex settings from device to device over the years so something may have gotten wonky. If it works out with a new lib and at worst I have to reselect poster art, I’ll accept that as a fair solution.
@fatherdad The item’s language is set to Indonesian. This can happen when you use Fix Match on an item in new Plex Movie library and then switch to search with one of the legacy agents and back again.
To resolve this just edit the item, go to Advanced and reset the metadata language setting back to “Library default” then refresh the metadata for the item.
There is still work to be done to prevent matching against the legacy agents in the new movie libraries.
