After the most recent 8.7.1 update, playing videos causes the app to crash. It does play the video, but once you exit out of it, it seems to crash and reloads/goes back to the home screen. Sometimes I get the system message app has crashed: close app, wait, or send feedback.
Odd thing is it doesn’t happen to movies (dvd/blu ray rips) / tv shows. It only seems to happen when playing my personal videos. I always rip to MKV, and I checked my personal videos and most appear to be mp4 and mov, not sure if that has something to do with it.
Already tried clearing cache, storage, uninstalling/reinstalling app. Restarted server, doesn’t appear be to any newer updates for server.
Tried on my wife’s phone, same exact phone to make sure it’s not something with mine, same issue.

EDIT: Updated to 8.7.2, same issue.
EDIT2: Updated server to new version 1.20.2.3402, same issue still.
EDIT3: After using the app more, it seems to not be limited to videos. Flipping though photos will cause a crash after a while, as does browsing through the photo timeline. Updated title of post.
Same thing here, since the recent updates as well and running Android 10 on a Oneplus 7. It happens to me no matter what I do or where, a couple seconds into opening the app it will crash and I get a “Plex keeps crashing” message from Android.
Tried emptying cache, force closing, checking for server updates. Plexamp works fine on the same device.
Ran across another user with the same issue who posted in the Plex reddit:
They have a Pixel 3 as well, initially I thought that might’ve been the common factor but it looks like there are other users with other devices that are experiencing the same issue. They said they dug out their old Pixel 2, installed the latest Plex app and had the same issue.
Can now only hope that the next app version that’s in beta 8.8.0.20999 will fix it.
Same here. With “enable new video player” on, it says it cant play this video with all videos, when disabled it crashes on many videos. Exactly the same results on and Android TV stick and an Android 2015 Sony TV, driving me nuts.
