which categories did you have muted?

I’m guessing a couple of those aren’t much used anymore, but ‘Latest’ is counting posts from ‘The World is Flat’ frequently.
have not been able to reproduce this. can you take a screenshot when this happens again with NEW selected and the topics from muted categories that don’t belong showing under it.

The first message is under “The World is Flat,” and the second is under “Third Party.”
Thanks for screens. Looks like Discourse does not include the subcategories when the parent is selected. I can ask them if that can change. There can be a lot of subcategories to have to select individually.

Has Discourse responded to this? I’m seeing a lot of changes, but no fix to this, and new bugs are cropping up.
Afaik they do not consider it a bug, just how it works, and some do want it to work the way it currently does, but I and a few others of their users have made the feature request.
That’s weird, I see no value in such misleading behavior. I hope they take the suggestion seriously.
