New Created Library dont show Media Files

Hello
i created a Library Movies and added the root folder of my media files to this library.
In the library “Movies” all folders and the containing mediafiles are shown.

BUT, when i create a NEW library and add a subfolder of the library “Movies”, the folders in it are shown, but NOT the mediafiles.
Even rescanning and optimizing databases and so on did not the trick…

any ideas?

thanks
marko

I am unsure what you did and what exactly you are trying to accomplish.
So I give you this for starters https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200381023-Naming-Movie-files

Maybe you can give a small example how your folders are stacked up and to which folder you pointed your library.
Also important is how you named your movies and which file format you are using.

I presume you’re on Linux by what you’re describing. When you try to ‘drill down’ and get to the top level of what you want to add (where you see your movies in the right side panel), they aren’t there or you can’t get down that far. Sound about right?

If so, this is the classic Linux permissions situation. By default, Linux does not let users see each other’s files without expressed permission. Also by default, Any files you create are for you exclusively.

The solution, which will give Plex read access to your media is to give it permission to read the directories first, then the files. Also, make sure your username has ownership as these permission settings will allow only the owner to write & administer the contents:

sudo chown -R your_username /top-of-media-for-plex-to-read
sudo find /top-of-media-for-plex-to-read -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;
sudo find /top-of-media-for-plex-to-read -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;

@OttoKerner , in the library “Movies” are a lot folders with mediafiles .mkv
In the library “Movies” is a folder ‘series’ with some subfolders in containing different seasons etc

Now i created a new library “share” and add the folder “series” to it
.
=> In Library “Movies” ALL folders and subfolders and files .mkv are shown

=> In Libraray “share” not. Only the folders BUT not the mediafiles .mkv

library “Movies” is:
|
/path/folder/folder
|
series
|_________ subfolder1/folder/season01
|__________subfolder2/folder/season02

In library “share” i added “series/subfolder2/folder/season02”
The folder “in” season02 are shown, but NOT the .mkv files
When i go there i get “There is no content in the selected folder.”

is this more understable for you?

So you have your series (in Plex lingo: ‘TV Shows’) within your movie folder?
That doesn’t work.
You need completely separate folders for movies and series.

/path/movies <-- movie library points here
   /movie title (year)
      movie title (year) - 1080p.mkv
   /movie title2 (year)
      movie title2 (year) - 1080p.mkv
/path/series <-- tv show library points here
   /tv show title
      /Season 01
         tv show title - s01e01.mkv
         tv show title - s01e02.mkv
         tv show title - s01e03.mkv
         ...
       /Season 02
         tv show title - s02e01.mkv
         tv show title - s02e02.mkv
         ...
   /tv show title2
      /Season 01
         tv show title2 - s01e01.mkv
         ...
   ...

as per https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220687-Naming-Series-Season-Based-TV-Shows

@ChuckPa your trick did not solve it.
btw, in the library “Movies” i mentioned above all is shown correct…so there should be the right access to files and folders or?

@OttoKerner ahhhh this couod be the answer. i will try this.
and what if i want to give access to just “one” seperate series access to a friend, and not the “whole” series

/path/series
|--------> folder1
|-------->folder2

is it possible to give access to /series/folder2 “only” ?

Since you have a Plex Pass, just ‘tag’ the series you want to share with him with a special keyword, then go into the sharing restrictions dialog and share only this special tag with him.

sorry, i dont get it where to edit a series folder with an “tag”
in the restrictions i found to restrict to labels
but how do i set a tag on a series folder at example??

sorry for that action
:frowning:

@OttoKerner ahhh got it , in view set “ALL” and not “BY FOLDER”
then i get the edit menu
Thanks !
