New episodes for TV Shows being added as seperate series

Hi,

I’m having an issue with Plex detecting new episode files, and creating duplicate series for the new episode only. So then I have 2 identical series, one with all the previous episodes and one with the new episode only. The new episodes are all named the same way, and being added to the same folder as previous episodes so not sure why this is happening.

So for example this happened today:

Sonarr downloads newest episode of WandaVision, renames it ‘S01E04 - Episode Title’ and places it in the folder with all the other previous WandaVision episodes (D:/WandaVision/Season 1/).

Plex auto scans the library, detects the new episode, and creates a new series with the correct metadata for just that new episode. In my library I now have 2 series called WandaVision, one with the first 3 episodes, and one with just the new episode. I then have to merge the two in Plex.

This happens with about 80% of new episodes and has been happening for months now.
I even did a clean install of PMS and started from scratch a month ago, but that didn’t seem to help.

Edit: Another issue I’m having which may or may not be related…

Say I add a new show, plex scans it and downloads all the metadata etc. I then go and change the posters for the show/seasons.

If I then add a new episode for that show a day or two later, Plex will find it and add it correctly into the show, but all my poster changes have then been reset. So I have to go and change them all again.

Same ! have you found a solution to this :frowning: ? naming is all correct on my side…not sure why it creates another entry.

Assuming your files are named correct then I can say I have seen something similar to this when I was testing the preview builds of the new tv scanner.

What I done to fix was to unmatch both versions and while they are still unmatched then clean bundles, empty trash and optimise the db. Then attempt to match the show again. That resolved the situation for me so worth trying if you have not already.

Failing that I would attempt a full plex dance on the show.
