The UI on Nvidia Shield is very cumbersome and has so many bugs. I have now realized this was an error in the release, but the issues still stand.
Nothing works on the remote. Not only that, but there is no skip 30 seconds, and the arrow keys don’t skip 10 seconds anymore.
I have found it freezes or stops multiple times on Shield and android.
I cannot sort or filter by rating. This is a massive issue. This is not just on the shield, but android as well. This is really unacceptable because I sort by rating often.
Why can I not make the browse and library toggles the default. I do not and will not use the recommended tabs ever.
Please fix playlists. Why can I not add to playlists? Why was the app released without so many major functional features regarding playlists. I don’t want to use the watchlist. They are not comparable.
I loved the previous Plex. I know they won’t go back, and I know some of the UI changes I can eventually deal with. But overall, please don’t release something if it is losing major functionality across all apps. You have a lot of very technical users on this app and you absolutely cannot take away features and think we won’t notice. And if the features will be added in the future, then don’t force the update on us until those features are ready. This is the first time in years, I might begin looking for a Plex alternative, and I have been so gung hon on Plex I have recommended it to dozens of people. I love this app and appreciate all the hard work that has made it so great in the first place. It was truly phenomenal. This change is truly unfortunate for what was such a great app and allowed us to watch our movies/shows in an accessible manner. However, I understand the Plex team is likely working diligently to fix the issues, and some of the UI changes will take some time but I will eventually understand them I am sure.
By the way, please, please don’t change plexamp in the same manner.
After this whole thing, right now that’s my biggest fear.
All my regular devices are from Apple, so for video playback I can use Infuse. I’d rather use the Plex apps instead, but when it’s not possible Infuse is an option that works.
But for music there isn’t another option. Plexamp is how I listen to music, it’s such an important app for me. I don’t know how many hours per month I spend with this app, I love it. I really, really hope they don’t change Plexamp the same way. It would be devastating.
No timeline for direct play/stream of OTA on iOS yet, but it is on our radar.
PiP is being fixed this week and those fixes will be out in an upcoming release.
At this point I just feel sorry for the developers who work on this app and are taking all the flak right now. They’re developers, they don’t launch broken apps on purpose and they absolutely know when an app needs more work and isn’t ready for prime time, but there’s always that person higher in the hierarchy who will force you to push an unfinished product anyway because they promised this or that to investors or shareholders (Hi Sonos!).
I work for a way bigger tech. company than Plex and it’s 10 times worse: A few years ago they lost hundred of millions $ (development) and many customers because they thought (execs) it was a good idea to launch their own, unfinished homemade IPTV platform (software, hardware, everything) despite the team working on the project warning them it wasn’t ready and would crash and burn if launched in its current state. As expected, it was a total mess… it was unstable, the receivers crashed 2-3 times a day and needed to be rebooted, and they would kill hard drives within a few months, scheduled recordings wouldn’t always start, the company producing our remote controls was having problems obtaining a specific chip from its suppliers, etc. and customers were MAD.
It must suck to see what you’ve been working on for months and months get trashed online, knowing it’s still far from the app you envisioned and wanted to launch as a developer, just because of the terrible decision of some exec in the company
search seems to be broken for me with the ios app. I can search for shows and movies without issue, but if I try to search for an actor, selecting an entry in the results brings me to the library page, not the author page. Search worked fine before.
This is easily the most pathetic “rollout” of a “new experience” I ever could have conceived of. It’s like every single thing you guys are trying to do is wrong, broken, or bugged, and you keep trudging ahead with a year+ worth of features and bugs that need to be fixed because Plex Execs says the app is rolling out no matter what to hit quarterly goals. It’s genuinely flabbergasting. I feel for the engineers in here apologizing and trying to fix the endless deluge of issues, as I’m sure they knew this was coming and it’s not their fault. Plex execs, this is absolutely embarrassing, pathetic, unacceptable, garbage, adjectives go on and on. Never ever see a company so completely destroy all that which they spent ten years building overnight. Just incredible. The “response” (ignoring the hundreds of people telling you this is literally one of the worst things they have ever seen in software) and forging ahead (what a week!) is the cherry on top. I will be telling this story as a cautionary tale to everyone who will listen.
On iPad-OS this update is just terrible.

once you finally got the „start-page“ feature more or less as you wanted it with recommendations and all, now everything gets turned upside down again.
at least give the option to never ever ever use this „new“ design please.
I use PLEX as a plexpass holder for years.
This update breaks the usability on any iOS-based system. Looks like made for toddlers. What the heck is going on here?!
I have tried 2 versions (2025.10.1 and 2025.12.0) and both are completely broken concerning chromecasts. None of them can see any chromecast. This is my main usage for plex app, so the app has become completely useless to me and there is no way to go back to the former version.
Here is a screenshot, note that there should be 2 chromecasts visible on the network and the app shows none. Playing from chrome browser works fine, but is a big pain and chrome is not my default browser.
This is like the sonos disaster. A terrible, incomplete app.
Give us back what we had, which is 100 times better!!

I have been using plex for so many years, and this is probably the moment i will move away.

This is not an update, this is a downgrade!
Mistakes happen, we all get that. However its the sheer number of bad decisions and “mistakes” which speaks volumes to how this company is being run and the pressure being put on its staff. They also seem to have messed up the roku app overnight judging by the posts within that category.
Confidence from its user base is at an all time low and look at the reaction to this “staged” limited rollout, and its only officially hit mobile. If they do push the TV app out it’ll be disastrous and potentially brand killing.
Maybe that’s what the big streaming services really want …
Not sure what’s gonna happen with the Roku app but I have a managed user in my home who will leave music playing for a limited time on her Roku streaming stick to go to sleep. I think she is turning it off by setting the sleep timer on the TV. I don’t see how that will work when there is no Music in the main Plex app. You can’t Chromecast to a Roku (or a Fire Stick for that matter) and I’ve seen zero evidence there is Plexamp coming to any TV platforms.
