What exactly is your problem? I have a large library too and the UI is just so darn laggy. Like I have to click buttons multiple times.
Any news on subtitles when casting to Chromecast from android.
Please just copy your old “perfectly working” codebase to your new app.
Subtitles were working, no need to reinvent that wheel and brake it now. Only to redo some UX…
That is not the way Plex…
I can offer a guess. By separating Photos and Music into their own apps, this would massively simplify what has now become the Video App making it easier to manage as a codebase. I think that the release of the new app gave the perfect time to do it, by not requiring the new app to cover other media.
I’ve been a plex pass user since 2019 and these forced updates along with questionable ‘features’ are becoming a bit much.
Like many others, I feel like this new app is a complete miss.
- Performance is not great, really sluggish UI. It is a press and wait for a lot of menus etc and the lazy loading is really lazy if scrolling through libraries
- Elements feel too large with so much wasted area around them
- Video playback is terrible, 480p videos are not full screen
- Transcode options are missing a lot of qualities, it seems that you can either have a small square video or you can have a really low quality one
- Double tap to skip small increments is gone
- Downloading a show is not possible and there is no control over when downloaded episodes should be removed
- Navigation between libraries is overly complicated
- On deck only shows a small number of items
- Home screen requires a manual refresh to update the on-deck items
Please provide an opt out of this terrible version
Battery life is terrible. Get just about 90 mins on an iPad Pro 11". Don’t even have to worry about battery life when using Infuse.
I have the same issue when commuting to/from work with spotty cellular signal. My workaround is to put my phone in Airplane mode.
Libraries view doesnt work on app post update on android phone and tablet.. tried everything, can we roll back? This obviously is not ready for release..
The apps is unusable on iOS, it’s freeze when you try to navigate
I hope more people will cancel their premium pass, they deserve a bankrupt
I know this doesn’t help you personally, but the app works fine for me on both iOS and Android. Yeah, important features are missing and there are bugs. But it works. I can do all the basic things I need - search, play, download, etc.
It might be more helpful to provide more details about what’s happening and ask for assistance, rather than wishing the company into bankruptcy.
Also after the newest update: own Live TV gives an error. I have no hope left that the Plex looser developers will solve the problems. They shall all loose their jobs!
Live TV works for me on iOS. Again, I’m not dismissing your bad experience but all you’ve done so far is to say it’s not working. I’m suggesting you provide more information about your environment, and perhaps some logs, and [kindly] ask for help. I might also suggest you open your own thread to do this, rather than tack onto this long thread that’s mostly turned into a rant. I’ve seen devs on here who are willing to help.
Is anyone else having issues with .ass subtitles on the iOS new app? I’ve opened a new topic here
so with this new app it never downloads direct even if i have optimized versions, it always transcodes. i just tried to download a season with optimization happening in the background and the app is waiting for those transcodes to finish before starting its own transcode queue
I did sent all debug logs from the app as well as the server to the developers. So I think you should not talk like this because you don‘t know anything!
I have both the old and new Plex apps installed. The old app casts to Chromecast and AirPlay without any problems, but the new app fails every time.
Every version of the new app I’ve tried has the same issue: it can’t cast to my Chromecast Ultra or AirPlay devices. Meanwhile, the old app still works 100% without fail.
When trying to cast to Chromecast, the TV just shows the Plex logo but nothing actually starts playing.
When trying to use AirPlay, I get an error on my iPhone that says:
“Error Occurred. A server with the specified hostname could not be found.”
Here’s my setup:
Server Version: 1.41.6.9685
Player Version: 2025.14.0
Devices:
Windows 11 24H2 running Plex Media Server 1.41.6.9685
iPhone 15 Pro Max running Plex 2025.14.0
Casting to Chromecast Ultra and LG TV UP7500PVG (AirPlay)

Maybe the new app will be awesome, but now the app is buggy, as you know; it’s a beta and you released it as final release to get all your customers as beta testers.
You can see that lot of us doesn’t like the new approach. We don’t want changes, we want improvements. Remove services we had in the previous app is not an improvement.
You should have launched this version as a new application, without forcing us to use it in an update to the surprise of many of us.
Some of us want music and photo libraries to be available again in the main application, we don’t want to install two new apps to play content; even less when both applications are not fully functional. Others prefer a different user experience, where the priority is the rapid change of the libraries that we have hosted on our own servers. Others want the home screen to be customizable. Others to not be forced to have live or streaming television services…
As a user for years, as a fan of multimedia server systems since the Playstation3 Media Server, as a consumer, I would like and I think it is necessary that you turn back, that you return the previous version to us temporarily and that you make the new version available to the public with another name until it works properly.
I think many others and I felt deceived when we updated at the beginning of the month and found an application that is NOT the one we were used to and with which we felt comfortable.
Many of us are already looking for an alternative for both server and player. So it’s up to you to decide if losing users is the route you have planned.
Rectifying is wise.
Best regards,
Ugo.
I’ve been a Plex Lifetime Pass holder for years, but honestly, I couldn’t take their poor decisions any longer.
After fighting constant bloat, bad app updates, broken casting, and features nobody asked for (hello, ads and “live TV spam”), I finally made the move, and I’m here to tell you: there’s life after Plex.
Enter Jellyfin.
I couldn’t ever tell my Google Home to skip forward or backward x minutes in Plex.
Guess what? It works flawlessly with Jellyfin.
I also couldn’t change my phone’s volume while casting from Plex iOS without it messing with the Chromecast volume instead, even when Plex was just sitting in the background.
Jellyfin? Works properly.
On top of that, Jellyfin is:
- Super fast
- Lighter on CPU and bandwidth
- Smooth as butter across my devices
Setup was a breeze too.
After installing, I allowed network access (very important!) and simply connected from my phone by entering my PC’s Wi-Fi IP address like this:
Worked instantly.
Casting and AirPlay? Covered.
- The official Jellyfin Mobile app supports AirPlay.
- Streamyfin is available on iOS and Android stores and lets you cast to Chromecast directly!
Metadata?
- You have real control: pick your metadata sources like TheMovieDB or The Open Movie Database.
- No random changes or forced content like Plex keeps sneaking in.
More granular control overall:
- No live TV junk.
- No ads.
- Just YOUR library, YOUR way.
And when it was indexing my pretty large collection, setup took less than 2 minutes before I was able to cast a movie to my TV. Flawlessly.
Best part? It’s FREE. And the Jellyfin community is active, healthy, and incredibly helpful.
Glad you are liking Jellyfin. I suggest you donate some money to help keep things going. Nothing in life is free and volunteers always get burned out eventually. Having money in their pot might make it easier to get other people involved and continue making strides in their development. We need to stop only concentrating on only getting “free” things because as I said before nothing is free.
There are many free software out there that is community driven like Linux Ubuntu etc. And yes I already contributed to Jellyfin. Also spent the whole day playing with it and it is amazing…
same here, downloads transcode no matter what and fail, one of the reason I pay pass is so I can download stuff but doesn’t work anymore, hope they fix it fast or I stop paying!
