New Experience Public Release Feedback

Completely agree, the entire premise of Plex was to have a one stop shop resource for one’s personal media. Literally no one asked for photos or music functionality to be removed from Plex, because, why? If you want singular apps for specific pieces of functionality, sure go for it. I can see some people not wanting the entire gambit of features if they only have music on there. But why remove this functionality from the main app. This likely was corporate committee decision to push streaming services onto users.

I went ahead and installed Jellyfin on my media server and am playing around with it, it’s got some real potential. Breaks my heart to say that I’m looking at alternatives as I’ve been using Plex for over 10 years, but they’ve made it quite clear their focus has shifted away from their core values.

Yes, because as we all know it’s not possible to have streaming services in an app if it already has music and photos in there… Obviously that must be the reason they were removed..

Okay? I don’t work at Plex so just hypothesizing.

Its one big disaster. It is like sonos all over again.

Maybe I’m missing it, but it looks like they removed the Repeat functions. I use the Android client for one thing: listening to movie commentaries on repeat while I sleep. Without that function, I no longer have use for this client. I hope I’m just not seeing it.

I am looking to provide some constructive feedback to the Plex team in hopes they are working on this new app rollout. I can agree it seems odd that it went through testing and they didn’t catch some of the small things.

I am running iOS 18.4 on a 4th Gen iPad Pro and my version of the Plex app is 2025.12.0

My main issues are first there seems to be no keyboard support. I use the apple keyboard stand and using spacebar to pause/play and the arrow keys to advance and reverse no longer work. Second, the auto continue play feature for TV shows is a bit buggy, sometimes it will continue to the next episode but sometimes it will restart the same episode and on a couple occasions it just crashed altogether.

I really enjoy the app otherwise and hope they can get these things sorted out easily for their sake.

This Alpha app foisted on us at the same time they announce an huge price increase and charging an additional fee for once free remote access is the height of arrogance, ignorance, and self-destruction. Just like Sonos, they are self-emoting over greedy instincts and self importance releasing a faulty app that has NO DVR controls, slow response, playback that stops in the middle of playback which requires multiple resets and an indifferent management team destined to take the ship down with them!

There are PLENTY GOOD alternatives to Plex, so long and thanks for all the Fish!

Yeah, I miss keyboard support as well so I’m hoping it comes back soon. My iPad screen is getting messier quicker now! :stuck_out_tongue:

Another issue I’ve experienced: put a TV show on pause, come back several minutes later (not sure how many but let’s say more than five minutes), tap on play to continue where you paused and about 30 seconds to 1 minute later (buffered amount?), playback stops and you have to manually resume the show.

At least you get a guide. I have no guides for either of my 2 HD Homeruns. And I have no idea how to set the DVR recordings up either.

I must say, they are releasing updates pretty quickly but I have had to look for them in the Apple App Store. They are not auto updating. Just had another one this morning. Still did not fix the keyboard support I mentioned however.

Also I just noticed the mini player is not working. Like when you swipe up in iOs to go to another app and the player would miniaturize and you can move it around on screen. There is no mini player but audio continued and I could go back to the app and play was continuing in the background.

Yes, many folks have reported that the mini player is quite flakey.

Came here just to peruse the thoughts on the Plex Experience changes, because from what I have seen it looks like it was specifically designed to be more cumbersome while removing important features like watch together.

Thought maybe I was just biased in my preferences for the standard app design layout, and features in the current version of plex; however, sure seems like I’m not alone…In fact it seems it’s probably the even the majority opinion.

I’m also worried my friends and family I convinced to get Plex in the first place might avoid the app all together, if the Plex Experience App changes go forward to everyone the way things are. Since they are not tech savvy they are not going to try and fix any problems or kinks, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they open the app to give it a chance probably max 3 times after the changes, and if they don’t get to what they are looking for or can’t find it they’ll just slowly stop using the app all together. I assume (since I only have video content) users that do use multiple plex media types are moved to needing to download multiple different apps will be even further annoyed by these changes…

Well what I can say… after last update on iOS Plex is transcoding everything on my LAN. This has never happened.
The funny thing is that I paid for the Pass but I can’t see anything basically.
I want back my working Plex app as was before because before was working.

V12 and V13 has not allowed me to use cell phone to access any of my server media. No OTA viewing, no saved tv or movies. Can’t download. Many others have this issue as noted on web search.

Guess I’ll have to downlevel via apk to get it to work.

No improvement with today’s update either.

Disabled adguard to see if that was cause but no help.

The video out issues are clear, when connecting to an external display it just mirrors what’s on the device. Proper video out fills the screen (assuming the AR of the video and screen match, but I was testing with 16:9 content).

Using all the video settings (original, zoom, stretch, etc) there is always letterboxing with 16:9 content on a 16:9 display.

This is very common for apps that don’t utilize the native playback engine, but I assumed Plex had some sort of workaround like YouTube does. Apparently not.

Same goes for Android App. Live TV tab is slow and laggy.
I want the Guide to fill up the screen, not a preview of whatever channel is selected. On my huge Galaxy Fold screen, the preview live tv takes up 2/3 of the screen, and the guide is crushed in the bottom - only 3 channels visible.
I want the option to dismiss the preview window, and let the TV guide fill up the screen!

I have had multiple issues with the new system. Some are more minor that relate to what others have said, but the two big ones appear to be:

  1. Constant restarts of videos. The restarts happen even with downloads, but then when I turn off WiFi the problem goes away. The issue seems related to the WiFi in my bedroom being weak.
  2. When I filter my movie library by year and then try to make some movies as watched, it can cause all of the posters and movies to disappear and become blank. When I scroll back up, the posters will pop back in. But disappear again when I try to mark as watched.

New App update, minor improvements, still not useable especially with large libraries and STILL no shuffle button.
