New Experience Public Release Feedback

This has to be one of the most blatant redesigns where the goal is not to improve user experience but to serve the interests of the shareholders, which in this case is by pushing services that users might not be interested, like it or not. I think I need to plan for a Jellyfin migration too.

I’m seeing transcode when downloading multiple episodes in the latest version. If I download one by one they don’t transcode.

The other issue that surprised me, if your content is larger than the “Limit remote stream bitrate”, even when downloading Plex will transcode for some reason. It would be nice if Plex differentiated between Remote Stream and Remote Download.

You might be onto something here

OK, as it for right now (2025.14.0 1037) iOS version; I been able to solve a couple of problems…

1- Removing Plex content from the app completely; To solve that I went to Plex web - settings - Online media sources, there I disable everything, all the general and discover settings, restart server and iOS apps, then all the “on demand content” from Plex should disappear from home and other places, it was annoying since the only content I want to see is my own!

2- Streaming Quality and downloads; I had the bad luck to be migrating my server form a My Cloud device to a windows at the same time this iOS updates rolled out, it has been a mess, so I don’t know if this is a problem related to that or to something else but since I been using the new app and transcoding features have been enabled for my server, my streaming quality has been terrible and downloads always tried to transcode and failed! To solve this I went to Plex web - settings - Plex for windows - quality, and disable use “recommended settings” box below “home streaming”, video quality box is set to max, then in the iOS app I enable “allow direct play” under the “video & audio” settings. Streaming now is faster and at full quality and downloads seem to download at the original quality too, unfortunately, it stills tries to transcode downloads when being away for some reason, still trying to figure this out, but for the moment better download everything you need from home…

3- Reorder the home section; In my “home” section (Now clean with only my content), I wanted to reorder the sections, for example; I have set it up as only to show “Recently added in TV Shows” and then below “Recently added in Movies”, one section of recently added for every library I have… I wanted the recently added movies first not TV shows, so to change order, I went to “Se all libraries” section shown in “Libraries” at the very Home page, and when the new page pops up, it shows all of my libraries as well of all the other Plex apps like “Plexamp” and “Plex photos”, then I tick off the heart for all my libraries and tick them on again by the order I wanted to be shown in my home, restart app and there you go… weird but it works.

4- Multiple Servers at the same time; To be able to migrate my server form one place to the other, I had to manually recrate all my music playlists and movie collections, as well as changing metadata all over again! To able to do that, I maintained both server functioning in the same Plex account, then I would just have one library from the old server on the left and the same library but in the new server on the right, that way I could manually mirror my old libraries, I know it’s stupid and there is probably better ways to do this, however, I find out that the new iOS apps and even the windows app are not happy with this, as it for right now, Plex doesn’t function very well with simultaneous server operations in the same account. I was able to manually copy all I needed but apps wouldn’t function during this and I had to finally disable my old server to start using the apps again… That was my plan initially but should your plan is using different serves at the same time in the same account, it’s not going to work, for now…

I know all of this might appear very obvious to some but I can assure you it took me a whole bloody day to fix all this problems, I am just a simple guy who barely knows to build a server to make a copy of his physical Blu-ray collection. I figured there is people who is having the same problems as me so I just wanted to share… feel free to correct me or add info by replaying… lets all help each other in this desperate everchanging moments…

Except that’s not the case is it? I had disabled services that I had no interest in so they didn’t show up in the old app. They still don’t show up in the new app. Nothing new (or old) is being pushed on me by the new app.

Just had the newest Android client installed on my phone…

  • Suddenly no music support anymore?
  • Extra clicks to get to and between to my libaries?
  • “On Demand” and “Discover” tabs always showing? (While i use them rarely, it seems the only option is to disable them completely using the web.. sigh)
  • Laggy OTA tuner performance
  • UI just seems slow and unoptimized

Yah nope, thats the last straw.. I’ve held off for years but i’ll start exploring Jellyfin tonight. For now i’ve uninstalled this hot mess and manually installed the APK for the previous version.

Music leaving the main app is definitely not “sudden” if you’re paying attention…

Referencing a post, on a forum, a day or two before an App update is released which removes a feature i don’t think can be called sufficent notice to blame an end user…

Do i live on the plex forums? No. The post you linked was March 30th and If im reading correctly they released the new App April 1st. Slow clap that’s some notice there.

What would have been notice? Oh i dont know emailing your paying customer base in advance if you’ve used a feature and it’s going to be removed. Surely they have metrics on usage, and could have implmented monitoring to capture the user base and inform them directly in advance.

I’m not trying to argue, but they announced it in September of 2024.

If you have “Unsubscribed from All,” here https://www.plex.tv/email-preferences/ Then you probably won’t get the emails about “Newsletters & Product News”

I see you are on android, just uninstall their new crappy version and install the previous 10.6 version from Plex for Android - #525 by PlexAndroidReleaser then disable the app from auto updating. It’ll likely work for years so just do that and forget about it.

Ok that’s fair, and yah im not trying to argue either. It’s just a little frustrating to wake up and suddenly be missing something ive used for years and have the other issues as well. Just felt poorly launched (even though it seems like i got the update much later than most) so I do aplogize if it came off as argumentative.

And you’re semi correct, I did unsub from “Newsletters & Product News” at some point (not everything mind you but that one does seem to be off) so that probably didn’t help the situation. Regardless, a direct targed “this feature is going to be removed” campaign would have probably been a good idea, but alas here we are.

But thank you for highlighting those posts.

Yeah, that’s a workaround, but needs to get fixed.

Yup thats exactly what I already did, which solves my problem for now. So thank you for trying to help.

When i have some more free time ill spin up Jellyfin and start playing around with that, and maybe try Plex’s audio app… as I do have iOS devices too.

Im not opposed to change, and I am hopeful some of the other issues I had will get addressed with time/updates. But regardless i appreciate your efforts.

For your iOS devices if they get upgraded here is how you can go back to 8.45

I did it a few weeks ago and I don’t plan to go back to the new one until I’m forced to.

Amazing thanks! I greatly appreciate your assistance. :oncoming_fist: :heart_hands:

Unfortunately I’m now screwed. Been using Plex since 2012ish, and a PlexPass subscriber for years.. but I just leave it alone as it just works, until now. I run 2012r2 server as my server on an old HP Microserver, and my apps update automatically on my phone and Ipad. IOS apps updated, cant update the server OS to a supported version without buying new hardware and transferring everything over, so now I cant watch anything on the go. At home I’m on AppleTv’s and fireTV’s, so I’ll have to see if they’re still playing later. May just have to cancel the plexpass and find another option if I cant install a version of the IOS Plex app that works for me !

You could backup the install of PMS, flatten the box and install Linux, then migrate the PMS install back.

today updated android tv box to 2025.14. This version totally ruined UX

  • Physical buttons on my tv sticks are no longer supported to enter pin codes. I have to press arrows to position on digits;
  • When entering home screen in 75% of cases - it just is not loaded. Perfect. 50% of the rest loading of the home screen takes more then 10 seconds.
  • When entering episodes or film cards - play button is not active by default. So - to start watching i have to press arrows until play button became active;
  • And my best error. Plex plays only one item. After that - any other episode of film is “audio codec error”. Until force stop of application and restart. Then these episode plays without error. But not the next one, until force restart.
  • And this is only two hours experience. I’m afraid what I’ll meet tomorrow

until you stabilize new UI - please give us possibility to use previous interface

Just updated my iOS app to 2025.14.0 and PIP mini player came back and is working. Still no keyboard support however. Seems like a relatively small thing to get going again. Patiently waiting…

The loss of the Manual Connection setting is a major bummer for me. I often use my media server on a LAN that lacks internet connectivity.
