Another bug: didn’t test this on the old Plex app so idk if it’s a new issue, but the new one does not properly lock the refresh rate to the content (24 in this case). It jumps around a bit.
The now old app supported my custom metadata. The new experience doesn’t display actors for media that was sorted with non-plex agents. Will that be added to this new app or are we out of support until this new metada API releases?
Hello! I can’t seem to find a way to hide the live TV button. I have it disabled in my account settings, but the button is still visible in the app.
How can I hide it? Thank you!
My god.
The old iOS app miss me so much, fresh new plex pass owner, I’m really disappointed.
Please bring back the old app, the new one is clearly not ready.
- Spatial Audio with AirPods? Why? We can’t disable it!
- Casting is not working.
- When downloading videos locally, we would like to have playback tracking between different devices. Feature disappeared. Why?
- Useless « live tv » button
J.
I was pretty enthusiastic about the design changes until I tried to play something–it’s a crapshoot if subtitles will work (I suspect some formats are supported but others aren’t, mirroring taigoldh’s observation with .ASS subtitles?) and skip intro doesn’t appear or isn’t working. Well what do you do if “skip intro” doesn’t work? Skip ahead 30 sec of course! Except, now there’s a buffer when you do that…on downloaded content. Why oh why is there a buffer on content that is already downloaded?? And heaven forbid if you press the “skip ahead 30 sec” button multiple times–the screen freezes for about 10sec or more but the audio continues to play.
The only reason why I use the app on my phone is to view downloaded content, and with the unreliable subtitles, skip intro broken, and the absurd buffering for content already on my phone issues, it’s now more trouble than it’s worth. I thought the new app was “built from the group up from scratch” or something? What the heck went wrong? Guys, you need to roll back the version because while the old one was buggy, it wasn’t broken.
Oh well, I guess it’s back to VLC. Hopefully things get fixed, but judging by the negative comments about devs not listening to feedback I won’t hold my breath…
I will not update on any further system. The app has become so bad, introducing new issues instead of fixing old ones first. I also don’t want to see TV, trailers, or Discover—I was at least able to disable or hide all of that before.
I want to see my own covers and backgrounds, not what Plex thinks fits best and automatically replaces in the app. The data collection is getting worse as well. A trend analysis of my server? Why do you have my data and even process it? I know exactly what’s being watched on my server.
And why can’t I manually enter a server anymore? Oh, so everything gets logged for your data collection.
Why don’t music and photos work anymore? They still work in the browser without dedicated Plex apps. Why do I have to clutter my phone with three apps? It used to work perfectly in one simple, customizable version where I could disable annoying features.
This update and your vision for the future clearly show me that, after almost 15 years, it’s time to switch to…
Why!!! Just why does the decision to roll out this NEW PLEX EXPERIENCE app for iOS/Android have to be forced when it’s STILL not completely done? After re-reading the original blog post again, and the release notes from yesterday/today…

I just don’t understand why today, this exact week, or month, HAS to be the moment to launch this. Why does every app roll out have to be 1/2 baked? We get tired of the fluffy marketing verbiage like “more features to come soon!”, especially when those features are just the old ones that already existed or have now been replaced. It’s no wonder why Plex Team is clueless as to why we don’t want to be bothered with Email notifications about product updates, pfftt! People hate being guinea pigs in mass when SAAS meets the bare functionality that it is supposed to have.
Customers RATHER have Plex team continue on their beta testing with the apps until ALL essential and previous features are mirrored into the new app. I will NEVER understand the need to push out a product that only will infuriate more people simply because there happens to be more errors and problems than before. Please, stop this nonsense.
We all could have waited a few more months until it was ready, and the kinks were ironed out from the beta testing. What is the point of having ANY beta testing when you’re not learning from your company’s past mistakes on previous app launches. I just don’t get it. It looks like Plex Inc. will never learn.
- The app should never have been released with this level of performance problems. The latest pro iPhone can’t run your iPhone app without serious stuttering.
- Stop pushing Recommended on everyone all the time. This kind of behavior from developers drives me insane. You already insist you know better than we do, don’t rub it in by forcing us onto this page when there’s an explicit setting for remembering I don’t ever want to see that screen.
- Actually allow us to disable features we don’t want, like Live TV and Watchlist, without nag screens complaining that we turned them off. This is ridiculous.
Will you add an option in the settings to disable the live preview in the Live TV section? I understand that many may like this feature. But I have already seen people on Reddit sharing my same frustration. Even on newer iPhone/iPads the app becomes really slow and unresponsive when you go into Live TV because of it automatically reaching out to grab the stream. Moreover, is it possible to make the app remember the selected tab like before? For example, I would like it to load into my favourite Live TV channels like before?
Personally I use Live TV with an antenna with Plex so I appreciate its not as hidden but they should definitely give the option to turn it off.
As far as the app goes overall- its not good lol. I’m sorry, I gave it a try but its so slow and laggy, missing features and just doesn’t work well overall.
Genre searching no longer works.
The app is freezing constantly on recorded tv shows. Why did they have to go and screw up a good working app. The live tv guide will not populate the current shows. All in all it does not work. I guess I will have to pull up the old jellyfin.
Which Mobile device are using and Model?
I am not finding it slow on a iPad Pro. Do miss Schedule
Using a new iPad 10th generation.
Live TV freezes on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. This is simply unacceptable Plex. The previous app worked just fine, AND had more features.
Now plex admin is saying I have to delete and reconfigure my dvr on the server to allow the guide to work for live tv on ipad 10th gen. . Wow, you would think the new app would work with server I have without having to reinvent it and start over.
I am incredibly disappointed by the new experience on iPadOS. It does have some positive points, but the major drawbacks for me are:
- Play All and Shuffle All have disappeared from the library level. The shuffle ability was a killer feature for me and the main ability that keeps me using Plex over the other similar platforms.
- Pulling up a Shuffled play queue (again, within an individual TV show only, no longer at the library level) is incredibly difficult. In addition, the list disappears from the screen after about 2 seconds of inactivity. It makes it hard to review the list for
- The ability to edit/reorder a play queue is no longer available.
I hope they are able to rectify these issues along with some of the other items other folks have mentioned. It feels as though some scope creep has been leaking in to their plans, such as adding a bunch of unnecessary FAST channels and removing features that alienate the users that helped get them to the position they enjoy in the first place.
Sort by Bitrate is missing. Sort by resolution is broken. The app is not ready. Please listen to community feedback, it’s okay to push whatever new stupid ad features and things you want to push, but GIVE US OPTIONS. Make it easy, or at the very least POSSIBLE, to customize the UI. And add sort by bitrate back.
The new version of Plex has removed the music function, and Plexamp doesn’t support videos. So, please tell me where I can view and play my music videos. How can I watch my music videos, artist interviews, behind - the - scenes footage, and concert videos now? What should I do with the content I’ve organized?
Wow, so many issues here, this is a horrible update to be very honest. I have to say so far this is a huge step backwards, both in functionality and UX.
-
Picture in Picture is broken. It randomly works with some shows and movies but not others. There is no pip button anymore (inexplicable in itself ) so the only way to test is to swipe away from the app.
-
The scrubber also randomly does not work. On some content it’s just impossible to tap and drag.
-
The inability to customize the bottom buttons is very bad. A full 2/3 of that space is completely wasted for me and I have to think many other users.
-
The “lock to landscape” option is apparently set per show??? Every time I play something new it’s locked again and I have to go I to the options and change it.
-
Lack of options in general. You have completely dumbed down the UX to the point that it feels like an absolute shell of its former self.
I really hope there are updates coming because this is unacceptable.
