New Experience Public Release Feedback

I have to correct you there, pretty much every function i use, does not work.

  • Live TV - no way to see scheduled recordings
  • Live TV favorite channels are broken
  • Massive delays when clicking on most buttons, like 1-2 mins mimimum.
  • Crashed just trying to view a channel ;
  • ‘uh oh, somethings not right’.
    Those are the basics

With the old app, downloads was a bit flakey, but other than that, 90% of it was functioning an responsive, with the main features you need.

We really do desparately need to rollback until the new version is at least working.
Im a dev and do know its painfull to step back rather than fix and move forward, but this is a major service issue.

This update is a complete joke of a failure, “easier to navigate” is the biggest lie I have ever heard. Truthfully it is utterly ridiculous and convoluted and designed to emphasize plex’s library without being able to control your home page and barely any info your own personal library. In the time it took to update I went from loving this platform to utterly hating the new layout to the point that I may stop using plex completely until it’s fixed. Whoever spearheaded and programmed this update needs to learn the actual meaning of what was planned cause they screwed everything up making everything worse and convoluted to use. Also why after every update are all my settings reset. Give us the same layout as the website not a layout that is the equivalent to every “great idea” any corporate towliner says is fantastic but utterly fails. Like how windows sacked the ceo when windows 8 failed epically causing them to push windows 10 in record time

Yep, spot on. You are not alone in thinking this. Pretty much everyone here agrees with you.

Adding to this: users should not have to disable features entirely at a server level in order to have the UI reflect their preferences. I do in fact use the Live TV function, but I have no desire to have that front and center when on mobile. When on mobile using plex, I am often traveling, and I do not want to stream live media as much as view my media library, remotely.

The suggestions here to disable these functions are helpful for those who never use them, but it doesn’t address the issue for users who don’t want to kneecap their server functions to fix the new apps terrible UI choices.

I’m posting here because I assume this is the preferred feedback loop for Plex Employees. I have found at least several other threads started on this topic without a single reply.
I haven’t updated my player in months. My daughter updated hers today which totally broke Chromecasting. I updated my own app to verify and it did the same.

I back-revved several versions, it seems all the “2025” versions have destroyed casting.

On the latest app (available 5/1/2025), when choosing to cast it only shows my Roku Devices and My Chromecast, and my Google Hub. It does not show any of the 4 Google Nest/Mini devices we have which are all accessible on the older versions (10.26.0.2578 which I have back-revved to).

This is verified on multiple android devices with multiple Android versions (10-14).

Can we please have confirmation that Plex knows this is an issue and point us to the proper thread to provide feedback and monitor on this.

Looking at the forums this seems borked for a while now, one of the reasons I don’t like upgrading.

Thank you.

Yup. This will be me too (if I ever actually use this new app).

As it is right now, I do occasionally use the Plex On-Demand / FAST content, but I like being able to unpin those sources depending on the client and not having those hubs on my Home screen all the time. If this is going to be a situation where I cannot do that while maintaining access I’ll just stop using the Plex content and block it on my account (which will also block it on any managed users as well).

As you say, this seems to be the opposite of what they are trying to do with this new app.

As someone who is currently on vacation using Plex: regression is an understatement. Just in my short time being forced to use it:

  1. Video output to external displays is broken, now it just mirrors which adds letterboxing and pillarboxing on all video.
  2. Video in PIP resets to the beginning when disconnecting or connecting to internet.
  3. Downloaded video frequently does not sync at the requested quality. Sometimes it transcodes when original is selected, sometimes it syncs at full when a lower quality is selected.
  4. Constantly crashes when you are doing something the Plex team clearly didn’t expect, like using the app while connected to a display.
  5. Randomly decides to not even show the UI when not connected to internet. Never loads offline mode.
  6. Downloaded videos is just a list of downloads, no autoplay, no smart syncing, no grouping by show or season, no downloading by show.

It’s embarrassingly bad. I ended up having to download a bunch of stuff to a USB key and just use Infuse. I’ve used Plex on every vacation I’ve been on for 10+ years without these issues.

The only thing worse than these massive regressions and this app being shoved out the door when it clearly wasn’t ready and those on the Preview repeatedly warned about, is the tone deaf response from the Plex team on the slew of major issues with this release.

I’d like to be clear: I don’t mind change. I’ve supported Plex for 15+ years. The new interface is fine, I understand there are bills to pay and that my lifetime Plex Pass I bought a decade ago isn’t paying the bills. I’m overall fine with the direction of Plex as a product.

But this release is a nightmare. I don’t doubt that it will be OK… eventually. But that doesn’t change the fact that the app in its current state is an alpha at best, and never should have reached the general public.

Spot on. And we just get talked down upon being told that everything works as intended, being told this is not a regression. The gaslighting has gotten out of control.

My app has lost functionality, but in the team’s mind, that is progression, not regression. How dare we claim otherwise in front of our Dear Leaders.

There have been thousands of views and comments in this thread and it’s only DAYS old. I almost never post here because the app “just works” and we shouldn’t have to come to forums to post. I cannot believe how badly this app functions and how terribly the response to user feedback has been. All of these complaints were vocally made known months ago.

This is going to kill the product for me.

They have already announced a similar intention to discontinue the existing Plex Web Interface and “upgrade” it. If this mess is any indication, it seems the current leadership and team were taken in by how nice the response to Plexamp was and very mistakenly though rebuilding all media functions this way was a good idea, while also pushing partnered services.

edit: also going to highlight the death of “Watch Together” as a feature, as well as the gating of remote access behind “Watch Passes” and the cutting of support for audio and photo libraries in the main app and pushing them into mobile-only separate apps. All user hostile choices that enshittify Plex severely, all with vocal opposition from users, and all ignored. Plex clearly does not give a damn about any of us in this forum.

As someone who has never had need to post here due to the generally outstanding community and support since I started using Plex in 2013

I just wanted to add my voice to those users calling out this update as poorly thought out, mismanaged, and a clear cash grab.

This has certainly made me stop recommending Plex to anyone for any use case and if the the app isn’t returned to a useable state I’ll certainly be migrating my house to new software.

Is this confirmed that they will be discontinuing the current Web Interface and is there a way to stop any sort of changes/updates to the current web interface?

Edit: Never mind. I will just use the bundled hosted version and not update my plex media server I guess once any sort of “new and improved” web interface is forced upon us.

This update is HORRENDOUS. Please just roll it back for us and LEAVE US WITH OUR FUNCTIONALITY.

We all want our local media servers. We don’t want streaming services shoved down our throats and we liked the interface. Stop trying to fix what isn’t (or at least wasn’t) broken!!!

Downloads are not working as they did on the previous UI.

Here is a short list of what I found to not be working on my Samsung Galaxy tab 7 FE.

  • switching between internal and SD card will erase all content - no confirm?
  • downloads will just stop syncing without any errors as to why
  • a few videos would just not sync at all. It kept progressing to anywhere between 40-80% when converting to 720p medium, and it fails, multiple times.
  • add an option to bulk delete episodes (maybe hold to toggle on multiple select)
  • episodes aren’t grouped into a show. This is annoying when you have a lot of episodes in a season or series and you can’t sort by the episode number.
  • downloaded episodes will only play in one orientation.

After years of telling people to buy a plex lifetime pass “just in case they want to run their own plex home” I obviously will not be doing that anymore. This is how customer loyalty is rewarded, with egregious gaslighting and dysfunctional app updates? Times have changed.

I have the update allright but not the download feature!!!

I have never posted in Plex forums before, and I’ve been a user for 12 years, bringing in many other lifetime subscribers. But here I am now adding to the noise because these updates have completely broken how I interact with the server.

Well shoot, where did you hear that?

Per one of skywalker7 post above. I don’t know if it is confirmed. Hopefully not after this mess.
