New Experience Public Release Feedback

So, about that. There’s absolutely NO REASONABLE explanation for the original Left hamburger menu to have been eliminated…. AT ALL. They absolutely didn’t learn from their mistake going with the bottom menu layout the FIRST time, which IIRC was 2018. I remembered noting it in one of my previous posts but yeah, so…. that Left menu had real purpose with a real use of functionality.

I don’t really understand what the big deal of having both a LEFT and a RIGHT menu panels. Like, who in the world stuck their neck out that far willing to sacrifice yet again for the bottom bar navigation that brought us back to horizontal sub menus.

There would be ZERO confusion had they just given us both left and right panels. I’ve used several apps who’ve used the very same approach with no additional reasons to stick my head into a gas filled oven.

I noticed an issue that can cause server crashing. When you queue up downloads, but put them on pause on the device. It holds the transcoded version in the directory. In my case that is my /tmp since I use a RAM Cache. The issue arises when you stream and try to transcode other things like streams , that space is still being held, so you run out of memory. I think that there should be a timeout to mark the transcode as stale, and it restarts when the download is resumed. I think also being able to select multiple downloads to cancel from the queue is a KEY feature since going through and pressing cancel on each on is painful and poor UX design.

App isn’t just a downgrade for me, it’s completely ruined the product.

On OnePlus 9 Pro running android 14 I literally cannot watch any media. I can browse my library and change playback settings and all that but when I try to watch anything it gives me an error that just says “Unknown Error Source Error” and won’t even start to play anything. Tried it on multiple files, movies and TV shows.

Everything worked fine on the previous app, everything still works fine on web viewer and on my TV app which is still the old android version works fine.

I’m beginning to regret giving you my money and if I can expect future “fix it even though it’s not broken” mentality then I’m not going to support Plex in the future either. Changing the app when it was perfectly fine just to squeeze out more cash is annoying, but y’all could have at least waited until you beta tested this properly.

Android app 2025.15.0:

  • can’t watch subtitles
  • can’t switch between source files
  • when device is in landscape mode on the not-default side, the player UI constantly appears and disappears, making videos unwatchable
  • no way to disable the “live TV” and “Movies & Shows” tabs; not sure why this needs to be administered at the server level instead of on individual player apps

More android app issues:

Tapping the 3 dots whilst watching something and hitting playback options locks out everything on the UI and it becomes unresponsive with no additional menus.

There’s no setting for a rotation lock so if standing phone up in portrait whilst lying down sideways, the slightest movement can cause the orientation to flip 180 wildly.

Continuing media that’s partially watched takes a long time and can occasionally just indefinitely load and even sometimes cause the entire server backend to crash.

App no longer respects ‘do not disturb’ and will flash notifications over the video regardless

Chiming in to say that this new direction Plex is heading is not what I or any of the people in this thread asked for. Your product was like a snowmobile - not everyone needs it, but those who do value it immensely. You made it into a decorative Santa sledge that you can put up on your house. It sucks. Fire your marketing team.

Is it the place where people say that new mobile app is mega poo-poo?

So, my home screen has now 5 buttons than i see every time and it takes place on my screen:

  1. Home. Here i can see in one place all the thinks Plex wants me to see, but i don’t. Live TV, plex exclucives, streaming films from 80’s. But nowhere close i can find my own library
  2. Libraries. The only functionality 95% of users (including !!!PAID!!! users uses). Here (for some reason) i can see only ONE library. Others i need to select and chande one at a time. Want to see “anive” and “tv series” in one place? Not here, not in Plex, kiddo
  3. Live TV. Yet another TV player (every app now is a tv player) with old channels noone wants to watch
  4. On Demand. Why we need our own On Demand, hosted with Plex, when we have On Demand home… I litteraly tried and didn’t fine one popular or good movie there
  5. Discover. Another place to but marketing and add

In total, 4 out of 5 buttons i want to never click. The only button i need is broken beyond repair.

This will fix your Home Screen:

this adds “continue watching” and “recently added” to home screen

this does not make others recomendations like “hey, watch this” from your library apear on home screeen. nor does this make recomendations from plex channels disapear

in previous versions i could hide every other “”“usefull”“” feature

i understand why plex tries to do that. but plex also needs to keep in mind why people use this service and pays for it in the first place. give us otpions to hide all of that

in other words, plex app was OK. redisigne does not need to kill existing functionality.

You can still do this on the “Online Media Sources” via the admin site.

didn’t know that. Thanks

i don’t like that you can’t “hide”, you need to “disable”. you could one week ago. This will work, but this isn’t the greatest solution

So my only consern is that in “Library” i now see only one selected library. Can’t see all of them in one screen, need to select and change

Have you actually gone in and favorited all of your libraries? If so, do they have funky letters in the library names at all

The app is still evolving / improving. What is unfortunate it is different and takes a bit to become familiar, there are also features missing and will be added in time. What has become apparent for Plex I believe is the huge number of Devices it supports was difficult to improve and maintain with the older UI.

Yes i did. Will post puctures here, england isn’t my first language, could ba a language barrier.

Home screen. I see all libraries, everything is OK. Both libraries are merged.

Library screen. I see only one selected (in the top left corner) library Сериалы (tv shows)

All libraries are selected as favorites.

To see recomendations and all content from other library Фильмы i need to click and change it in top left corner.

prefered outcome: all libraries on one screen merged

I tend to agree, yet were here and I can only say it’s frustrating. I hear you loud and clear and as a member of the Testing Group it is very Top of mind in the group to sort it out as quick as possible.

As for Downloads, I have personally not had that issue on iOS, I will try on my Samsung Phone to see if i have the same issue.

ipad and iphone user here

On my ipad (new interface) i downloaded with no problems. And honestly, i’m quite shocked, because it was FAST. Like it should be all those years.

On my iphone (old interface. maybe app didn’t update or smth) download instantly fails. But afret soft reload app downloads are back and super slow (as it used to be).

Maybe it is an app issue indeed, some hidden bug

To be clear, i don’t want or don’t need to tackle this issue now :))

I have just checked `Downloads on my 2 Samsung phones Version 2025.15.0.(966828394)

They worked perfectly on a one bar 4G reception, what the issue seems to be the app default settings for Download.

if you go to Avatar/ Downloads/ you will see three sub menus, go to Settings and disable WiFi only.

I have downloaded 6 episodes in the time I have been writing this reply, all are available in Completed.

If this does not work for yourself , can you reply with Phone model and make and the exact Plex app version found in about of app settings.

Cheers
