Some of the the new ui doesnt look great on Zfold not sure if its the same on Tablets but when I use the large screen and select a show to watch you just see the backgound image and have to scroll down to hit the play button.
Being able to add and remove icons on bottom be nice.
Music being taken away sucks. The new UI just doesnt feel great to use.
A couple of thoughts:
- Please bring back theme music.
- Remove the “Recommended” tab or, at least, make the app remember your last choice, e.g. “Browse”.
- Please, remove “Live TV” for those who don’t use it.
Another thing.
I have no problem with Music being removed. Plexamp is vastly superior and is continually being developed and improved by @elan and the Plex Labs team.
But Photos? The Photos app hasn’t been updated since it was launched some months ago and currently is not working. Clicking on “Library” I get the orange spinner and then “Nothing to See”. It used to work when it was released - slow as hell - but it doesn’t anymore.
So… is Plex abandoning Photos? That’s the big question.
Not that big a question really…
This is truly a step backwards.
- No theme music
- It’s crashed about 4 times watching a 40min show. It’s never crashed for years.
- The play/ffd/ icons and sizing are too small
- I can’t delete episodes once I’ve watched them.
- Too many clicks to find what I want
- I can’t refresh my library
- Hy is there a live tv button why can’t I remove it
- Why is there a discover button why can’t I remove it
Why? It’s like Sonos over again. It was working pretty well and was stable. You okay local media stop trying to force extra content and rubbish at me
I think it is. For the reasons I mentioned in my post. The Photos app was released some months ago and hasn’t been updated since then.
It used to work somehow albeit much slower than the Plex app and about a month ago it stopped working.
So, as things are now, with the new Experience app installed I don’t have access to my Photo library.
The new app doesn’t have Photos and the Photos app doesn’t work.
How did this get released? Is there any way to go back to the previous version?
I have my own collection of movies which I spent a long time edit the metadata. Now suddenly the actors aren’t listed in de mobile (iPad/iPhone) app. Super frustrating. This was one of the reasons I got the Plex Pass.
Also, my collection is sorted in different categories. But the option to shuffle a category has dissapeared.
Please, please roll back to the previous version and fix all the issues or put it in a oppt-in beta release.
They’ve answered everything you’ve raised. Photos will be in the photos app. The photos app will be getting updates soon.
Don’t be ovr-picky here. If the photo app does not work for that user and the photo app did not get an update for a “long time” then does an answer given “long ago” really guarantee anything? And as it seems, reality bites the user by taking access to his own photo libraries away from him with the apps he used to use (plus a non-working - according to the user).
There were no Plex words on THIS before. It sounded like an easy change which it’s definitely not at this point.
Why blaming the user for not believing some Plex words given long ago when his reality is different? Unnecessary roughness on your part, @Krazeh
But in the meantime users on IOS devices have zero ways to view their photos! Seems pretty straightforward to understand!
They also completely removed music video integration with music in your OlOlex library and it hasn’t been addressed either!
I stop updating the app until it’s not so darn slow any longer, until it gets the “Plex content” buttons out of my way as it was before, plus playing theme music again.
I use a third-party app for playing music, so I don’t care about what Plex has to offer here.
The answer was given 2 days ago. In the forum post Plex put up about the new app. Are we really calling that “long ago”?
Yes it’s not great that the user doesn’t currently have access to photos through an app (either the new app or the stated to be broken photo app), but there isn’t a big question about whether Plex intend to continue supporting photos.
Server Version#: 1.41.5.9522
Player Version#: 2025.10.1
When chrome casting a show with subtitles active, they do not show when casting to a chromecast ultra.
I also see there is now a ‘CC’ button in the player I interface, which I assume is for closed caption (or subtitles?), but having that on or off does nothing
If I use a different iOS device with an older version of the app (8.45) to cast the same show to the same chromecast ultra on the same server, the subtitles are displayed.
Seems the plex chromecast application that is loaded when I start casting differs too between the different versions of the app.
No. Photos will not be in the Photos app. Photos is in the current Photos app. But alas, it doesn’t work and it hasn’t worked in some time. And not only for me, but for others, probably everybody that uses the Photos app.
So, excuse me, if I am a little sceptic about Plex promises.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I am not a Plex hater. I love Plex and use it every day but nothing wrong expressing some kind of disappointment in how things are being handled by Plex Inc.
I’ve mentioned it before, Plexamp is a superb piece of software but Plex Photos in its current state is…well, it doesn’t work, what else can I say?
There’s nothing wrong with saying the photo app doesn’t work for you or that you’re disappointed with how Plex has handled the app rollout. I’ve never said otherwise.
My issue is specifically with suggesting there’s a big question around whether photos will continue to be supported when there was a statement 2 days ago addressing that very point.
Since posting 30mins ago it’s crashed another 3 times.
Bravo plex
I’m watching a downloaded video and doesn’t seem to be updating the watch status to the Plex Server. I’m halfway through and episode and I don’t see it marked as halfway through on the Plex Server.
If I start the video anywhere other than the downloads, it starts from the beginning. I can only play it from the downloads where it stores the watch status.
We have all of the live TV turned off within our Plex settings. It doesn’t show up anywhere at all. Not at the bottom, not in any of the apps. And it’s not just unpinned. It just does not show up at all. We did have to manually turn it off deep within the settings for our server in Plex. But it’s not there.
I’m a little confused by this comment as well because I keep seeing it repeated .The live TV can first and foremost, be ‘unpinned.’ And secondly, it can be completely removed. And is completely removed on our Plex; it doesn’t show up anywhere. Even if you hit edit, you know to pin and unpin different media sources. Live TV is not there at all
Are you saying you don’t have a “Live TV” option on your toolbar on the bottom? Also, what device are you using? IOS with the new released app?
