New Experience Public Release Feedback

And it’s not just C-suite. Product Managers are notorious for doing complete, unnecessary, overhauls of a product simply because all the kinks have been worked out of the “old” one and they need to keep themselves relevant and employed. So they come up with a complete redesign that is usually worse and push it out as fast as possible so that the investors and C-suite don’t see any “stale” product lingering and BAM. This is where we end up. A half-baked, poorly conceived rebuild that was pushed out a year too soon.

Came here to see if downloads/sync has been fixed with playlists… Looks like that is a big nope.

Still crazy to me that I can’t watch content with TrueHD 7.1 sound on the iOS app without it crashing. Known bug but they still won’t fix it.

Correct. 7.1 audio direct play does not work at all on iOS/iPadOS.

We’re 4 updates (~2 months) in since this issue is reported and it’s still not fixed yet.

Disappointing.

It is clear that Plex team members have stopped communicating at all over the past two months, specifically on topics of iOS and Live TV.

It would be great if Plex can remember these forums are the only avenue for PAYING customers to seek support for product BUGS. It is also clear that Plex are highly selective about who they will engage with, apparently saving interactions with the user base who might lean towards sycophant behaviours, rather than engaging in a more honest and robust (yet with all of the insight and detail been asked for) discussion.

I’ve honestly never seen in all my years (and yes I’m no spring chicken) such total disregard for a paying user base, not about “how can I” questions, but bugs that were introduced as part of a botched update.

Looking at even just the headlines for Plex Players / Mobile Devices, is depressing. What is noticeable is a) the increasing desperation and frustration from customers about long standing issues and b) that almost all threads have zero engagement with any member of the Plex team.

If I might offer there suggestions:

a) Some kind of AI support agent be deployed, at least to help customers to find their way to offical Plex information in these threads. The same issues are getting raised several times, however trying to find offical Plex guidance for those who bother looking, is almost impossible.

b) A community management function, at least until things are stabilised, to help with clear updates and communication.

c) Consider some kind of visibility of a bug tracking system, at least for large widespread issues (like blank Live-TV EPG, forced transcode of Live-TV or 7.1 playback issues as examples). Just knowing it’s priories and on a list would take quite a bit of heat of of these forums, doesn’t need to include timings to fix, but could allow people to submit targeted logs and feed-back.

Live TV with own DVR still not working. „Oops, something went wrong“ just on open of the Live TV section all the time!

Even after months these „geniuses“ of Plex developers are not able to fix it.

All still working on the old app.

log-2025-08-31T13_29_55.775Z.zip (291.8 KB)

Logs are here. @PlexPlex: do something, now! I paid for that!!!

The new app is still so bad after all this time. Live TV is really bad compared to the old app. It is slow, no background playback of live tv unlike old app, can’t turn scree off and continue playback of live tv, guide loads slow, and overall the app just feels like beta.

Luckily I can still use the old app. I would have bailed if I didn’t have that option.

TV episodes that were watched offline via downloads do not update properly their watched status. With luck only the last one you watched will be updates (i.e. you watch E01→E10, only E10 will be marked as watched) but even that sometimes does not work, so you have to go to the downloads again while online and the status will be updated (only for that episode). There is no mark in the Downloads which episodes you have watched. This is all a massive mess, you have to remember what is the last episode you watched, I consider this BASIC functionality, otherwise I would just copy the files and watch with a File Manager. Pretty dissapointed.

This is utter bullshit. If app developers for Infuse can figure this out, the Plex Team should be able to that too. And previous releases were able to do it. So don’t come with false information.

After this long time of frequently making the wrong decisions and often telling bullshit why something is not possible, when another developer team like Infuse does show that it can be done! I now sincerely doubt the competence of some of the Plex developers. Why does it take nearly a year for developing an Apple TV app?

How long do i have to wait finally for the release of the new Apple TV App? I like the new app. The one for iOS is buggy for some parts anyway and is released, so there is nothing against for a release on the Apple TV, or none of it should have been released in the first place. At least get me into the TestFlight Experience again!

Some more issues with Downloads. There is no easy way to download multiple TV episodes, you have to enter each episode and click on the download icon, one by one. In the old version you could start downloads easily from the Season view, just click on Download on each episode. There is as well the option to Download a whole season, but even this does not work properly, most times some episodes will fail to download and they will be stuck in the in-progress tab forever. There is no option to re-initiate the download for the stuck episodes. The only solution is to delete the download of those episodes one by one, and go to each episode and start a download again, but then you have to remember which episodes, because there is no indication if an episode was downloaded or not from the episode main view.

This is a MASSIVE mess compared to the old version. And the old version had its own problems as well, but the current status is horrible, this is not ready for prime and it was released like half a year ago and it is still in this horrible state. I wonder if Plex people actually use Plex.

It doesn’t take much time to scour the intarwebs and learn that Plex is operating probably near half as staffed as they were just a few years back. I don’t think they’ve ditched out on responding on purpose. They simply do not have the time to come back here and respond to everything. I would also imagine they’re getting leaned on pretty heavily from the desks upstairs to produce results.

Having read what I’ve read, I am absolutely sympathetic to these fine folk, doing the best they can with the peanuts they’re given. That said, I still think this “New Experience” isn’t the best path forward, but I don’t think they’re being given any choice in the matter, either.

I’m sympathetic to the developers - I am one, and rarely do we get to make the changes we feel are best.

I am not sympathetic to the company or its leaders. They took something golden and wrapped it in ■■■■.

Yes, exactly! Leadership/board/investor(s), whoever is calling the shots looked at Sonos and said, “Let’s do that!”

Now obviously I’m (mostly) being sarcastic but given what we’ve seen over the past almost year since this “New Experience” started it wouldn’t be that far off to assume that’s exactly what happened

These bugs are still around:

  • Browsing Movie library does not work. Works with 8.45 version.
  • SRT subtitles with ANSI encoding does not work. Works with 8.45 version.

This seems to be fixed (not sure what version after 2025.20.0) :

  • Live TV mostly ends up with CoreMediaErrorDomain error 1718449215. Works with 8.45 version.

This bug has been fixed in 2025.20.0 version:

  • PGS subtitles timing is not working as well compared to 8.45 version.

It would be also important that new React Native Client would get new localizations. Only seven languages are currently on development in Transifex and for some reason no new requested languages are accepted. Please accept new languages.

So it is now 22 days since last release of the latest Apple TV preview beta release (stuck on 23 and iOS is on 24). Also the release notes states that fixes were made for Apple TV. But there is no release 24 for Apple TV yet!

3 weeks! Are we getting any AppleTV new beta release soon. Or have all developers switched to Roku? I don’t get it.

So when can we expect a new TestFlight release for Apple TV?

There are way to revert back to the old app on iOS and iPad there are guides

That was not my request. I don’t want the old app. I want proper new one

Looping movies, I finally I find some one else who has the same problem! I have a family member who starts a movie when going to bed, only to wake up to it still playing.

Playlists, where they at? Haven’t read all the thread, but I miss them and hope they come back soon. Unfeasable for me to have to go to my computer just to add stuff to my playlists.

Watching stuff on my android app is just. No point in even trying. Oh well, maybe soon stuff will work again?

Sow now we have finally the 25 Update for Apple TV. A nice new library popover menu. But the old bug when clicking on an actor jumping to the library view and not to the movies or series of the actor is again present. Only by the second time when clicking on the same actor the correct view is shown.
