New Free NAS 11.2 with latest Plex, no Metadata found any Videofile

Hi I install a new Free NAS an put Plex on it.

Installation like many Tutorials on You tube.

Plex shows my media with may Movies but not one of it gets Metadata.
Manually search for Meta doesn’t work too…

Anyone an Idea?

regards

Does your Plex Server have access to the internet to access those metadata repositories? (e.g. no firewall settings blocking Plex’ outgoing requests)

FreeNAS offers a plugin, for non advanced users its recommend to use that, it simple and should “just work” as it takes care of jail creation and setting it up properly.

I’m don’t know what tutorial you’re referring to and what they suggest, but if the system provides its own installation method as it is for other software its most times the best way to do it, particularly if you’re a FreeNAS beginner.

That said, how did you install exactly?

Hi Tom, i use the following Network Settings for Free NAS and Plex Jail.
Both are connected to the Web. Plex Shows that there is an Update so it must be connected with the Web. Right?

Hi Mikec,

i used this Video. Very easy tutorial.

If your install on your NAS turns out to be okay, I’ll guess a few things.

Would you screenshot your Settings > Agents > Movies > Plex Movie
and also tell us what you have for Account > Language

I noticed we both have the film “3 Days to Kill” but yours doesn’t even have the year below it. Would you tell us how you named that file? Do all your films follow the Plex naming scheme ? Do you have separate movie and tv libraries?

Hi Nibbles,

enclose the Screenshots.

The Media Files were used on FreeNAS Version 9.3 & Plex for some Years.
That worked fine with getting also Media Data.

The Media Files are 1:1 the same & same naming scheme like before.
Of Course Movie an TV are separates libraries.

The only thing with the new installation is mssing is the OFBD Agent. (for German Metadata)
I am not able to find an install option for that in the new plex version.

It’s good to hear it worked on a previous install named that way.
I personally made all filenames exactly like the Movie naming scheme I linked.
I was afraid the agent would get confused, but I’m new

You mentioned you used this group of files on FreeNAS-9.3 for years. Right on, may I ask what exactly you tried to restore to the new NAS? Was it only the media (mkv files for example), or did you copy entire Library folders and the like which might have Metadata hidden in them?

FreeNAS is beyond my technical skill. Hopefully it’s just a matter of library migration or agent not being available in the new PMS.

nibbles

Hi niibles,

i take only the Media Files to the new System. (ZFS RAID)

Old Jail was deleted. Fresh installation of Plex on Free Nas 11.2.

Okay so it’s truly a clean PMS install.
PMS could handle the filenames on a previous FN.

As it’s looking like an Agent and localization issue, do these Plex forums have section for German language posts? There’s got to be someone who has experience with your settings.

Maybe TMDB isn’t up to the challenge.
Maybe it’s just a checkbox you need to switch.
Maybe there’s an error we can spot in your Server Logs.
If you’d like to add a single film SomeTestFilm (2018).mkv and Scan Library and post your logs, we could have a look.

Make sure VNET is enabled in the jail (If you just go with defaults on the plugin install this should be preset).

You posted a screenshot above where VNET is not enabled, this is listed as a requirement in our support articles and its also the default for the plugin!

If I can offer some advice just go with the plugin defaults if you’re new to FreeNAS don’t follow any tutorials unless you do understand what each step/setting they hint to means!

Hi Mikec,

thanks for your advice.

Enclose you see the new config of the jail.

Now I cannot reach the Plex Management anymore. Whenever IP Default Router ist set up or not.
I’ve already tried with Options on VNET default interface by selecetion the acutal interface.

But can’t still reach the Management Site (not reachable)

DHCP is off and I’m assuming that ip address in the config is from the shared ip config before enabling vnet.

Enable DHCP

Hi Mikec, thats it. After activating DHCP the Management Site can be opened and Plex can find Metadata.

How do i config now the static adress to have a fix IP for the Management Site?

IMHO this should be done on the dhcp server (router) via mac address reservation not the freenas/jails them self.

It’s much easier to manage that way.
