New LG webOS App Preview

I changed the language together with everything I wanted and everything saved after the app restarted.

Yeah the menu is way too big and the player is even bigger. It takes 60% of the screen for a title, a seek bar and player controls. Also lacks many shortcuts.

The deal braker for for my other half was that Session shuffle was hidden from view and then once you did press it the menu screen would stay while you could hear the show in the back ground had to exit app before you could use it again.

Settings: Subtitles, they’re not in player settings, though they aren’t in the current app either.

Does your server allow secure connections? The new app will not fall back to insecure connections by default, but you can change that in settings.

Not currently, it’s something we’re working on.

Translations in general are a WIP, we’ll have a Transifex project available for this, like we do now.

Big jumps/chapter skipping is possible via the channel up/down buttons. It’s no longer on up/down to be move consistent with other platforms that open the OSD on up.

Can you elaborate on when you’re seeing it reset?

Are subtitles enabled? Subtitles will be burned if the audio or the video requires transcoding, forcing the video to be transcoded.

This is expected, it now matches the video player.

Which menu are you referring to?

Thanks for all the feedback so far.

right arrow should read next number button. In the old app this does take me to the next number. How else do I go to the next number from my remote?

Any menu with the images of movies or albums. The thumbnails.

Also working what never worked before on my tv: Web shows and news!

I mention it in my post

4k HDR files are buffering a lot with the new client but plays flawlessly on the old client.

Bitrate is pretty high though at 176 Mbps.

Edit: Both clients are direct playing the file so I am not sure what causes the buffering in the new client. Subtitles are not enabled if that helps

Speed and interface generally is all a step up - thank you.

Feedback - hopefully not repeating anything already mentioned:

  1. Video previews (i.e. the Netflix style) no longer work when FF or RW video during playback - unless I’m missing something.

  2. Similarly can’t see chapter thumbnails to jump to new chapters during playback

  3. LG pointer doesn’t function - only arrow keys

  4. On TV episode selection screen - it defaults to 1st episode in season rather than next unwatched episode. The overview tab has a resume button which works well to start with the next episode or where you left off but you have to select the overview screen to get there.

  5. Also in same screen the difference between watched and unwatched episodes is quite subtle with only progress bar along bottom to differentiate. The orange triangle generally employed throughout apps is not implemented here.

Fantastic start though - love that playlists are now available/editable and the recommendations sections in TV and movies which have long been missing from the LG app which make content discovery on par with other apps

LG OLED55B8 - 05.10.50

Just enabled early access - very impressed with brief check so far with the look especially and specifically the look of seasons in TV Shows. Will play around and report back!

it will not save my settings and every time i change user it asks to go through the initial customisation wizard.

settings i’ve tried to change…time format, subtitle colour and remote quality to original.

Tv model: 55UJ7750
Webos: 3.8.0-61114

-Cursor of the remote doesn’t work.
-Subtitles option, harder to find.
-Subtitles delay has dissapeared.
-Cannot change the language while searching for Subtitles.
-Deleting an ítem frozes the screen.

Love the new UI! Feels very snappy and modern.
Any plans of supporting magic remote functions? As in point, highlight aimed part and click. This is still a nice feature missing in the Plex Player for webOS

Settings of video playback were a bit unclear as it mentioned “Original” at the Playback tab under Quality, but it was still transcoding the video (non-supported audio stream + subtitles)

Source: TrueHD 7.1, SRT internal & 4K HEVC Main 10 HDR

Client version: 5.0.10
Platform version: 4.1.0
Model: LG 49SK8500 PLA

Tv type: OLED55B8PLA
Software version 05.10.50

First of all, I really like the new UI. Its very slick and beautiful, and faster.

I have an issue though that made me opt out:
When I go to Season Overview and select Shuffle play all seasons, the video starts playing but the overlay is still on, only way to get rid of it is to back up repeatedly until I am asked if I want to exit Plex, I say no and I get back to the main menu.

This seems like a nice improvement in appearance and responsiveness.

I’ll add to the others requesting restored & expanded support for the LG Magic Remote onscreen pointer. Removing the support that was there already is a step in the wrong direction. Add support for the scroll wheel.

I’d also like a bit more information on the player onscreen display. Time remaining, especially!

Hi

beside the buffering issue exist long time on LG WebOS v4.1 and below :frowning:
the early preview LG Plex client magic remote is NOT working while using the RED pointer.

there is a long thread related to buffering issues on the public LG plex client and the new early preview client as well.

Thanks

Is there meant to be live TV guide as all I see is the old browse menu?

Where did the option to delay/fasten the subtitles go?

I solved buffering issues on my old client. I basically stuck an USB to Ethernet adapter to the TV instead of using the wifi or built in Ethernet adapter .

My other big choke point was running Plex on windows. Even though I had an gigabit Ethernet card, iperf test wouldnt give me above 100 Mbps up. Once I moved to Plex on Ubuntu, I got 300 Mbps and it’s been smooth sailing ever since.

But the new client is buffering again so I opted out. Hope they iron these issues out before pushing the updates down on us

Edit: old client faced issues with internal subtitles. Using external subs solved the issue for me. Read somewhere that it is due to transcoding when using internal subs
